The Weight of Watching Others Hurt

One of the hardest parts of this journey has been watching my children navigate their own pain. Seeing my son graduate from college without his mother there to celebrate was gut-wrenching. Watching my daughter wrestle with the changes in her world as she turned ten and entered junior high has been equally heartbreaking.

As a parent, I want to fix everything for them. I want to take away their hurt and make their lives whole again. But I’ve learned that sometimes the best thing I can do is simply be present. I can’t heal their hearts, but I can point them to the One who can.

God has used this season to teach me the importance of bearing each other’s burdens. It’s not about having all the answers or fixing everything, it’s about walking alongside those who are hurting, offering love, support, and prayers.

If you’re watching someone you love walk through pain, know that your presence matters more than your solutions. Trust that God is working, even when you can’t see it, and let Him carry the burdens you can’t.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you support and encourage someone you love who is hurting?
  2. What burdens do you need to entrust to God rather than carrying on your own?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for teaching me to bear the burdens of those I love while trusting You to carry what I cannot. Help me to be present and to reflect Your love and compassion in every moment. Strengthen me as I walk alongside my children, pointing them to Your faithfulness. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.
