Social Justice and the Gospel: Finding Balance

In a world increasingly focused on social justice, Christians are called to engage with issues of inequality, oppression, and need. However, it’s crucial to balance our pursuit of justice with the central message of the gospel. Social justice without the gospel addresses temporary needs but leaves eternal ones unmet.

Biblical Justice: The Bible commands us to seek justice and care for the vulnerable (Micah 6:8). This reflects God’s heart for the oppressed and His desire for His people to be agents of change in the world.

The Centrality of the Gospel: While addressing social issues is important, our ultimate goal is to point people to Jesus. The gospel is the only solution to humanity’s deepest problem: sin.

Living Out the Gospel: True social justice flows from a transformed heart. As we serve others and fight for justice, we do so as an extension of the gospel’s transformative power in our lives.

Heaven, Hell, and Eternity: What Happens After We Die?

What happens after we die is one of the most pressing questions for people of all beliefs. The Bible provides clear answers: there is life after death, and our choices in this life determine our eternal destiny. While this truth is both sobering and hopeful, it’s vital for Christians to understand and defend what the Bible teaches about eternity.

The Reality of Heaven and Hell: Jesus frequently spoke about both heaven and hell as real places. Heaven is a place of eternal joy in God’s presence (Revelation 21:4), while hell is a place of eternal separation from Him (2 Thessalonians 1:9).

God’s Justice and Love: Some struggle with the idea of hell, questioning how a loving God could allow such a place to exist. However, God’s justice requires accountability for sin. His love, displayed through Jesus’ sacrifice, offers everyone the opportunity to choose life (John 3:16).

The Urgency of the Gospel: Knowing the reality of eternity compels us to share the good news of Jesus with urgency. Heaven and hell remind us that our lives are not just about today but have eternal significance.

Ananias: Obeying God in Uncertainty

Ananias is a lesser-known figure in the Bible, but his obedience in a pivotal moment of uncertainty changed the course of history. When Saul (later Paul) encountered Jesus on the road to Damascus, God called Ananias to go and pray for him. A man notorious for persecuting Christians.

Understandably, Ananias hesitated. Saul was dangerous, and going to him seemed like a death sentence. But Ananias trusted God’s voice and obeyed. He went to Saul, laid hands on him, and prayed, leading to Saul’s physical and spiritual healing. Saul went on to become Paul, one of the greatest apostles and missionaries of all time.

Ananias’s story reminds us that obedience often requires stepping out of our comfort zones. We may not always understand God’s plan, but when we trust Him, He can use us to accomplish incredible things.

Overcoming Fear with Faith

Fear can be paralyzing, holding us back from the life God has called us to live. I’ve faced moments when fear whispered, “You’re not enough,” or “What if you fail?” In those times, I’ve learned to lean into the truth of 2 Timothy 1:7. God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind.

Faith doesn’t mean we won’t feel fear. It means we choose to trust God in the midst of it. When I’ve stepped out in faith despite my fears, I’ve seen God’s power at work in ways I never imagined. Fear may still whisper, but God’s voice is louder, reminding me that He is with me and for me.

Overcoming fear begins with surrender. When we bring our fears to God, He replaces them with His peace and courage. He equips us to move forward, knowing that He is in control and that His plans for us are good.

Absolute Truth in a Relativistic World

In a world that increasingly embraces the idea that truth is subjective, Christianity stands firm on the belief in absolute truth. God’s Word provides a moral foundation that does not change with culture or personal preference.

God as the Source of Truth: Truth is not subjective, it originates from God. His Word is the ultimate standard of right and wrong (Psalm 119:160).

The Danger of Relativism: When truth becomes subjective, morality becomes fluid, leading to confusion and chaos. Without an unchanging standard, society loses its moral compass.

The Unchanging Word of God: The Bible’s teachings on morality, justice, and love remain constant, providing a foundation for life. While culture shifts, God’s truth endures forever (Isaiah 40:8).

Defending absolute truth is not about judgment, it’s about offering a foundation that leads to freedom and hope. In Christ, we find the truth that sets us free (John 8:32).

Trusting God in a New Season of Loss

This birthday is different. It’s my first one without my wife. The loss and changes over the past year have been painful, and there are moments when the weight of it feels overwhelming. Yet, in the midst of the heartache, God has been near.

I’ve seen His faithfulness in ways I didn’t expect. He’s surrounded me with friends and family who remind me that I’m not alone. He’s given me strength to keep moving forward, even when I don’t feel like it. And He’s drawn me closer to Him, showing me that His grace is truly sufficient.

Jason’s story in the Bible inspires me again. Despite the challenges he faced, he stood firm in his faith, trusting God to work through the difficulties. I want to live with that same faith, believing that God will use this season for His glory and my good.

Faithful in the Unknown

This birthday feels different from any I’ve ever had. I haven’t spoken to my wife in over six months. The only times I’ve seen her have been brief, formal encounters in court. I don’t fully understand why things are the way they are, and the silence weighs heavily on me.

Yet even in the unknown, I’m choosing to remain faithful, to the Lord, to the promises I made in my marriage, and to the calling He’s placed on my life. There are days when the confusion and pain feel overwhelming, but God’s Word reminds me to trust Him with all my heart, even when the path ahead is unclear.

Serving God in this season hasn’t been easy, but it’s been my anchor. Leading in ministry, pouring into others, and staying connected to His Word have given me strength. Though I don’t have all the answers, I know that God sees the bigger picture, and He’s working even in ways I can’t see.

Jason, in the Bible, reminds me of the importance of staying faithful in difficult seasons. He didn’t let the opposition he faced shake his commitment to supporting the gospel. In the same way, I’m choosing to hold fast to God’s promises, believing that His plans are good, even in the midst of uncertainty.

Today, on my birthday, I find myself reflecting on what it means to leave a legacy of faithfulness. Jason, in the Bible, stood firm in his faith and supported the work of God, even when it came at great personal cost. His quiet courage and unwavering obedience inspire me to ask: Am I living a life of faithfulness to God?

Faithfulness isn’t about perfection; it’s about perseverance. It’s about trusting God in every season, using what He has given you to serve His kingdom. Whether it’s through ministry, parenting, or everyday interactions, we are called to live with integrity, love, and purpose.

Looking back on this year, I see areas where I’ve fallen short and areas where God has been so faithful despite my weaknesses. I pray that as I continue to grow, I will honor Him more fully and leave a legacy that reflects His goodness and grace.

Faith and Science: Are They Compatible?

A common misconception is that faith and science are incompatible. Many believe you must choose one or the other, but the truth is, faith and science complement each other. God is the Creator of both the natural world and the laws that govern it, and science helps us understand His creation.

Order in the Universe: The precision and complexity of the universe point to an intelligent Designer. From the fine-tuning of physical constants to the intricate design of living organisms, science reveals God’s fingerprints.

Christian Scientists: Throughout history, many of the greatest scientific discoveries have been made by Christians who viewed their work as exploring God’s creation. Isaac Newton, Johannes Kepler, and Gregor Mendel are just a few examples.

Science Points to God: While science can explain how things work, it cannot answer ultimate questions like why we exist or who created the universe. These answers are found in Scripture and point to God as the source of all life.

Faith and science are not enemies, they are partners in revealing the majesty of God. By embracing both, we can better understand His power, creativity, and love.

Shiphrah and Puah: Defying Evil with Courage

Shiphrah and Puah may not be household names, but their courage in the face of evil played a critical role in God’s plan to deliver Israel. As midwives in Egypt, they were ordered by Pharaoh to kill all Hebrew baby boys. But instead of obeying, they chose to fear God and protect innocent lives.

Their defiance wasn’t just an act of civil disobedience; it was a declaration of faith. They risked their own lives to obey God rather than man. As a result, they not only saved countless children but also played a role in preserving the line through which Moses, Israel’s great deliverer, would be born.

Shiphrah and Puah’s story reminds us that obedience to God often requires courage, especially when it goes against the norms or orders of the world. Their actions demonstrate that even in the smallest roles, our faithfulness can have eternal significance.
