Responding to Dirty Jokes with Grace

What do you do when someone tells a dirty joke? It’s a tricky situation. Ignoring it might feel awkward, laughing along feels wrong, and calling it out could come across as judgmental.

In moments like these, I’ve found that grace is the key. Responding with grace doesn’t mean laughing at the joke. It means finding a way to redirect the conversation without shaming anyone. Sometimes it’s as simple as not reacting or steering the topic to something more uplifting.

We’re called to let our words be full of grace and seasoned with salt. This means being kind and tactful while staying true to our convictions. Our response to inappropriate humor can be a quiet but powerful witness to those around us.

Reflection Questions

  1. How have you responded to dirty jokes in the past?
  2. How can you prepare yourself to respond with grace in similar situations?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the wisdom to navigate difficult conversations. Teach me to respond with grace and truth when faced with inappropriate jokes. Help me to reflect Your love and convictions in every interaction. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

When God Keeps You Hidden

Scripture:
He reveals deep and hidden things; He knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with Him.
Daniel 2:22 (NIV)

I’ve always had this sense that God was doing something in the shadows, quietly shaping me, refining me, setting things in place before revealing the why.

I’m not talking about being overlooked or dismissed. I’m talking about being hidden… by God. Protected. Set aside. Not because I’m unqualified, but because He’s preparing me for something deeper.

I’ve come to believe that hidden seasons aren’t punishment… they’re preparation.

Moses spent 40 years in the wilderness before leading Israel. David was anointed king but went back to the field. Even Jesus didn’t begin His public ministry until age 30. There’s something sacred about being hidden, something holy about being developed in the dark.

We live in a world that values visibility and affirmation, but God values faithfulness in private. He sees the prayers no one hears, the obedience no one applauds, the tears that never make it into posts or journals. He sees… and He’s not in a hurry.

I used to want breakthrough. Now I want obedience.

I used to want recognition. Now I want roots.

Because when the season shifts and the curtain lifts, I don’t want to just have a message. I want to be the kind of person who can carry it well.

Maybe that’s where you are too. Maybe you’ve been faithful in the quiet places, and you’re wondering if God even notices. He does. And in His time, He will bring to light what’s been growing in secret.

Stay hidden if that’s where He has you. That’s not the end of your story. That’s the foundation.

Bible Promise:
For the Lord sees clearly what a man does, examining every path he takes.
Proverbs 5:21 (NLT)

Reflection Questions:

  1. What have you learned about yourself or about God in hidden seasons?
  2. What would it look like to lean into preparation instead of striving for promotion?

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the seasons when You’ve hidden me… not to punish me, but to protect me and prepare me. Teach me to value obedience over applause, roots over recognition, and preparation over promotion. I trust Your timing and Your process. Make me ready to carry what You’ve called me to, but keep me grounded in You. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Taking Care of Widows and Children

Caring for widows and children isn’t just a nice idea; it’s a command rooted in God’s heart. James 1:27 reminds us that true faith is reflected in how we care for those in need, particularly the most vulnerable among us.

I’ve been blessed to know incredible widows and children who have faced immense challenges with grace and resilience. Seeing their faith and courage inspires me to act. It’s easy to assume someone else will step in, but Scripture makes it clear: this is our responsibility as believers.

Caring for widows and children doesn’t always mean grand gestures. Sometimes, it’s as simple as listening, praying, or showing up. When we take the time to invest in their lives, we not only meet their needs but also reflect God’s love and faithfulness in tangible ways.

Reflection Questions

  1. Who in your life might need support, encouragement, or care right now?
  2. How can you step into God’s calling to care for widows and children this week?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your heart for widows and children. Teach me to care for those in need with compassion and intentionality. Resilience: Finding Strength in God Through Trials

Resilience isn’t about never falling… it’s about rising again with God’s strength. Life throws challenges at us, and some seasons feel like we’re barely holding on. But resilience in the Christian life comes from trusting that God is with us, even in the storm.

I remember a time when life felt overwhelming. Every door I tried to walk through seemed to close, and the weight of disappointment pressed down on me. I cried out to God, asking, “Why is this happening? How am I supposed to keep going?” His answer wasn’t an instant solution, but a quiet assurance: “I am your strength.”

Psalm 28:7 became my lifeline during that season. It reminded me that I didn’t have to muster up strength on my own, God was my shield, and He would help me endure. Resilience isn’t about our ability; it’s about God’s faithfulness. When we lean on Him, He equips us to persevere, no matter what we face.

Reflection Questions

  1. How has God been your strength during a difficult season?
  2. What practical steps can you take to lean on Him more fully in times of trial?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for being my strength and shield in every trial. Teach me to trust You when life feels overwhelming. Help me to rise with Your power and face each day with resilience. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Fasting with Joy

Fasting is often seen as somber or difficult, but Jesus taught us to fast with joy. In Matthew 6:17-18, He reminds us that fasting is a private act of worship between us and God, not a display for others. When we fast with joy, we honor Him and experience the blessings of drawing closer to His heart.

I used to approach fasting with dread, focusing on what I was giving up. But as I leaned into God’s presence during a fast, I discovered the joy of worshiping Him in a deeper way. Fasting became a celebration of His goodness and a reminder of His sufficiency.

Fasting with joy shifts our perspective from sacrifice to surrender. It’s an opportunity to trust in God’s provision, to experience His love, and to grow in faith. When we fast with a joyful heart, we reflect His grace and invite others to see the beauty of living for Him.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you shift your perspective on fasting from duty to joy?
  2. What blessings have you experienced when fasting with the right heart?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for teaching me to fast with joy, focusing on Your presence and goodness. Help me to honor You in my fasting and to trust in Your provision and love. Teach me to approach this discipline with a joyful heart, reflecting Your grace in all I do. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Love Through Every Season

Every relationship experiences seasons.

Some seasons are filled with laughter and joy. Others are marked by stress, responsibilities, and the challenges of everyday life.

But real love grows stronger through every season.

Marriage is not just about sharing the best days. It is about walking together through the difficult ones as well. It is about choosing unity when life becomes complicated and choosing patience when emotions run high.

The love God designed for marriage is resilient.

It weathers storms. It forgives quickly. It grows deeper as two people learn to trust and depend on each other.

On Valentine’s Day we celebrate love, but the deeper truth is that love is not sustained by a single day.

It is sustained by faithfulness over time.

The strongest relationships are built when two people continually turn their hearts toward God and toward each other.

Reflection Questions

  1. How does faith strengthen a marriage during difficult seasons?
  2. What are some ways couples can continue growing closer over time?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the relationships You place in our lives. Help us remain faithful, patient, and loving through every season. May our marriages be strengthened by Your presence and guided by Your wisdom. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all of the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Understanding Homelessness

Homelessness is often misunderstood. It’s easy to make assumptions or judge from a distance, but Jesus reminds us that when we care for the least of these, we’re caring for Him. Understanding homelessness requires compassion, humility, and a willingness to see people through God’s eyes.

I’ve had opportunities to serve the homeless, and each time, I’m reminded of their humanity. Their stories, struggles, and dignity. Many are facing challenges beyond their control, and what they need most is love, not judgment.

Matthew 25:40 challenges us to take action, whether it’s through giving, serving, or simply listening. When we step out of our comfort zones to meet people where they are, we reflect Christ’s love in a tangible way. Understanding homelessness begins with seeing people the way God does: as beloved children, created in His image.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you show Christ’s love to someone in need this week?
  2. What steps can you take to better understand the struggles of homelessness?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for reminding me of the value of every person. Teach me to see people through Your eyes and to respond to their needs with compassion. Help me to reflect Your love in practical and meaningful ways. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

TV Shows and the Normalization of Sin

TV shows today often portray sin as normal, acceptable, or even glamorous. Whether it’s promiscuity, dishonesty, or other moral compromises, these behaviors are frequently woven into storylines in ways that make them seem harmless or justified.

The more we expose ourselves to these messages, the more we risk becoming desensitized. What once shocked us can start to feel normal, and what once convicted us can become easier to ignore. As Christians, we must guard against this gradual erosion of our values.

Choosing TV shows that align with biblical principles doesn’t mean avoiding all secular content. It means being discerning. Ask yourself: Does this show challenge my faith, or does it encourage me to grow closer to God? When we prioritize His truth, we protect our hearts and minds from the subtle normalization of sin.

Reflection Questions

  1. How do the TV shows you watch influence your thoughts, values, or actions?
  2. What steps can you take to be more intentional about your viewing habits?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the wisdom of Your Word that helps me discern what is good and true. Teach me to recognize and avoid content that normalizes sin, and help me to focus on what draws me closer to You. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Serving with Compassion

True service begins with compassion. When Jesus saw the crowds, His heart was moved, and He responded with love and care. As His followers, we’re called to serve with that same compassion, meeting people where they are and showing them the love of Christ.

It’s easy to become overwhelmed by the needs around us, but when we let compassion guide us, we begin to see people as Jesus does. Worthy of love and care. Serving with compassion isn’t about fixing every problem; it’s about being present, offering a listening ear, and meeting needs as God enables us.

Compassionate service reflects the heart of Jesus and creates opportunities for others to experience His grace. When we serve with His love, we bring hope and healing to a hurting world.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you cultivate compassion for the people God has placed in your life?
  2. What practical steps can you take to serve others with the love of Christ?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for showing me the power of compassionate service. Teach me to see others through Your eyes and to respond with love and care. Help me to serve with a heart that reflects Your grace, bringing hope to those in need. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.
