When Friendships Lead Us Away from God

Not all friendships are beneficial. Some relationships, while enjoyable, can subtly lead us away from God. Proverbs 13:20 warns us of the danger of keeping company with those who live foolishly. Their influence can pull us toward compromise, unhealthy habits, and even sin.

I’ve experienced friendships where I had to ask, “Is this relationship drawing me closer to God or further away?” It’s not always easy to let go of friendships that don’t align with God’s purpose for our lives, but sometimes it’s necessary for our spiritual growth.

This doesn’t mean we abandon non-believing friends, but it does mean setting boundaries and being mindful of their influence. We can love them, pray for them, and be a light in their lives without compromising our own walk with Christ.

Friendships should challenge us to grow closer to God, not drift further from Him. Evaluate your relationships and seek God’s wisdom in aligning your friendships with His will.

Reflection Questions

  1. Are there friendships in your life that are pulling you away from God?
  2. How can you balance loving others while protecting your walk with Christ?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of relationships and the wisdom to discern which ones honor You. Teach me to set healthy boundaries and to surround myself with people who encourage my faith. Help me to be a light to those who don’t know You, without compromising my walk with You. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Personalizing Scripture in Prayer

Personalizing Scripture in prayer is a powerful way to make God’s Word come alive in your life and the lives of others. When we pray specific Bible verses and insert our names, or the names of loved ones, we connect deeply with God’s promises and align our prayers with His truth.

For Yourself: Personalizing Scripture reminds you of God’s promises in a tangible way.

“God did not give me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7).

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1).

For Others: Declare God’s promises over your loved ones by speaking their names into the Scriptures.

“kiddo can do all things through Christ who strengthens her” (Philippians 4:13).

“our son, be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).

“My friend, God’s plans for you are to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11).

For Situations: Use personalized Scripture to intercede for specific challenges.

“Lord, you are a refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble for our family” (Psalm 46:1).

“In this home, the fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, will prevail” (Galatians 5:22-23).

Personalizing Scripture is not about changing God’s Word but about claiming His promises for your life and the lives of those you love. It transforms prayer into a deeply relational and faith-filled experience.

Reflection Questions

  1. What Scriptures can you personalize to pray for yourself and your loved ones today?
  2. How does personalizing God’s Word make your prayers more meaningful?

Lord, thank You for the power of Your Word, which is alive and active in my life. Teach me to personalize Scripture in prayer, claiming Your promises with faith and confidence. Help Kneel Ministries guide others to deepen their prayer lives through Your truth. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

This revision removes any specific names beyond kiddo and our son and keeps the focus on the practice of personalizing Scripture.

Sharing the Gospel with Family

Sharing the gospel with family can be one of the most rewarding, and challenging, parts of evangelism. Family dynamics often come with history, emotions, and expectations that can make these conversations complex.

Live Your Faith: The most effective way to witness to your family is through your actions. Let them see Christ in your love, patience, and integrity.

Choose the Right Moments: Be sensitive to the timing and approach of your conversations, ensuring they’re led by the Holy Spirit and not forced.

Pray Without Ceasing: Never underestimate the power of prayer for your family. Trust God to work in their hearts, even when you don’t see immediate results.

Sharing the gospel with family requires patience and love. Remember, your role is to plant seeds, but God is the one who brings the harvest.

  1. What steps can you take to share the gospel with your family in love and humility?
  2. How can your daily life reflect Christ to those closest to you?

The Role of Prayer in Evangelism

Evangelism begins with prayer. Before you share the gospel, praying for the person, the opportunity, and your own heart can open doors that might otherwise remain closed.

Pray for Open Hearts: Ask God to prepare the hearts of those you’ll encounter, softening them to receive His truth.

Pray for Boldness: Fear can keep us silent, but prayer equips us with courage and the right words to say.

Pray for Opportunities: Paul asked for prayers for open doors, reminding us that evangelism is as much about God’s timing as our willingness.

When you pray for those who need Christ, you align yourself with God’s will and invite Him to work through you. Prayer is not just preparation… it’s the power behind every conversation.

  2. Who in your life needs your prayers for their salvation?

Being a Godly Friend to Others

Friendship is a two-way street. While it’s important to surround ourselves with godly influences, it’s equally important to be that influence for others. Proverbs 17:17 reminds us that a true friend loves at all times, offering support, encouragement, and grace.

Being a godly friend means reflecting Christ in how we listen, speak, and act. It means showing up in times of need, offering forgiveness when wronged, and speaking truth in love, even when it’s hard. True friendship isn’t about convenience. It’s about commitment.

In my own friendships, I’ve learned that being a godly friend often requires sacrifice. It means putting someone else’s needs above my own and being intentional in how I invest in the relationship. When we model Christ’s love, our friendships become a testimony of His grace.

Ask yourself: How can I reflect God’s love in my friendships today? By being faithful, forgiving, and supportive, we can point our friends to the ultimate friend… Jesus.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you be a better friend to those God has placed in your life?
  2. What practical steps can you take to reflect Christ in your friendships?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the opportunity to be a godly friend to others. Teach me to love, serve, and encourage those around me with Your grace and truth. Help me to point my friends to You, the ultimate source of love and friendship. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Esther: For Such a Time as This

Esther’s story is a powerful testament to God’s providence and the courage it takes to step into His plan. As a young Jewish woman who became queen of Persia, Esther found herself in a position to save her people from annihilation. But doing so meant risking her life by approaching the king uninvited.

Mordecai’s words, “for such a time as this,” reminded Esther that her position wasn’t by chance, it was part of God’s plan. With courage and faith, she acted, using her influence to protect the Jewish people. Her bravery changed the course of history.

Esther’s story challenges us to recognize the opportunities God places in our lives to make a difference. Whether in big ways or small, He calls us to act with courage and faith, trusting that He has placed us where we are for a purpose.

Reflection Questions

  1. What situations in your life might God be calling you to step into with courage and faith?
  2. How does Esther’s story encourage you to trust in God’s providence?

The Power of Your Testimony

Your personal testimony is one of the most powerful tools for sharing the gospel. It’s a unique story of how God has worked in your life, and no one can argue with your experience.

Keep It Simple: Focus on what your life was like before Christ, how you came to know Him, and how He has transformed you.

Be Honest: Don’t try to make your story sound perfect. Authenticity resonates more than perfection.

Point to Jesus: Your testimony should always glorify Christ, not yourself. Share how His grace has made all the difference in your life.

Sharing your testimony is not about having a dramatic story, it’s about showing others the power of God’s love and faithfulness.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you share your testimony in a way that points others to Christ?
  2. What parts of your story might resonate most with those around you?

Lord, thank You for the story You are writing in my life. Teach me to share my testimony with boldness and humility, always pointing others to You. Help Kneel Ministries equip believers to use their stories to glorify You and share the gospel. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

The Company We Keep: Choosing Godly Friends

Friendships shape who we are. The people we spend the most time with influence our thoughts, habits, and even our faith. Paul’s warning in 1 Corinthians 15:33 reminds us that bad company can corrupt good character. This doesn’t mean we avoid non-believers, but it does mean we need discernment in choosing close friends.

Godly friendships encourage us, challenge us to grow, and point us to Christ. They’re a source of accountability, comfort, and joy. In my own life, I’ve seen how the right friends have strengthened my faith, while the wrong influences have pulled me away from God’s best.

Ask yourself: Are my friends helping me become more like Jesus, or are they leading me toward compromise? As Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Choose friends who sharpen your faith, not dull it.

Friendships are a gift, but they’re also a responsibility. Be the kind of friend who reflects Christ’s love and inspires others to draw closer to Him.

Reflection Questions

  1. How do your friendships impact your relationship with God?
  2. What steps can you take to build relationships that honor Him?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of friendships and the influence they have on my life. Teach me to choose friends who draw me closer to You and to be a godly influence in the lives of others. Help me to reflect Your love and truth in all my relationships. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Overcoming Fear in Evangelism

One of the biggest obstacles to sharing the gospel is fear. Fear of rejection, fear of saying the wrong thing, or fear of offending someone. Yet, God’s Word reminds us that His Spirit gives us power, love, and self-discipline to overcome fear.

Focus on Love: Sharing the gospel is an act of love. When we care more about someone’s eternal destiny than our own discomfort, fear begins to fade.

Prepare Yourself: Knowing God’s Word and practicing how to share your testimony can help you feel more confident.

Rely on God: Remember, it’s not your job to save anyone, that’s God’s work. Your role is to share faithfully and leave the results to Him.

Fear is natural, but it doesn’t have to hold you back. With God’s help, you can share the gospel boldly and joyfully.

Reflection Questions

  1. What fears have held you back from sharing your faith?
  2. How can you trust God to overcome those fears and step out in faith?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the Spirit of power, love, and self-discipline that equips me to share the gospel without fear. Teach me to trust You in every conversation and to focus on Your love for those who need to hear. Help Kneel Ministries equip believers to overcome fear and share their faith boldly. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

David: A Heart After God

David is often remembered as a king, a warrior, and the man who defeated Goliath. But above all, David was described as a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22). What set David apart wasn’t his strength or leadership, it was his heart for God.

From his humble beginnings as a shepherd to his anointing as king, David’s life was marked by a deep trust in God. Even in his failures, like his sin with Bathsheba, David turned back to God in repentance, demonstrating the kind of relationship God desires with us.

David’s story reminds us that God values our hearts more than our accomplishments. He looks beyond outward appearances to see our true selves. When we seek Him with humility and devotion, He works in and through us, no matter our flaws.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you cultivate a heart that seeks after God in your daily life?
  2. What does David’s story teach you about repentance and God’s grace?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the story of David and his heart for You. Teach me to trust You in every season and to seek You with humility and devotion. Help me to rely on Your grace and to live in a way that reflects Your love. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.
