The Daughters of Zelophehad: A Bold Request for Justice

The daughters of Zelophehad, Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah, and Tirzah, might not be well-known, but their story is a powerful example of courage and faith. In a time when inheritance laws favored men, these women approached Moses and the leaders of Israel with a bold request for justice.

Their father had died without sons, and under the existing laws, his name and inheritance would have been lost. But the daughters of Zelophehad believed in the justice of God and boldly asked for their father’s property to remain in their family. God honored their request, setting a precedent that ensured fairness for future generations.

This story reminds us of the importance of speaking up for what is right and trusting God to bring justice. It also shows how God values both men and women, using their courage and faith to bring about His will.

I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

The Social Media Meltdown

Date: September 1, 2024

Bible Verse:

“Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.” (Philippians 2:4, ESV)

Message (Longer with a Fun Twist):

I remember the day my phone buzzed nonstop with social media notifications. One friend posted about her amazing vacation in Hawaii, another announced a dream job promotion, and then someone else (who hasn’t aged a day since high school) posted pictures of a full-blown triathlon.

Before I knew it, I was caught in the comparison trap. My life suddenly felt dull. No palm trees, no fancy job title, and definitely no six-pack abs. Trying to keep up, I posted a photo of my dinner (homemade spaghetti that looked more like a red-sauce tragedy) with a witty caption that, unfortunately, nobody liked. Cue the self-pity meltdown.

That’s when our daughter popped into the room, took one look at my grumpy face, and said, “Dad, social media shouldn’t make you sad. It’s just pictures.” Her words instantly snapped me

back to reality. She was right, it was just pictures. Behind every perfect post is a real person with struggles, just like me. Social media often shows the highlight reel, not the behind-the-scenes reality.

I started thinking about Philippians 2:4: “Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.” My focus had been all wrong. Instead of celebrating others’ joys, I let comparison steal my joy. I realized that God wasn’t calling me to “compete” with anyone’s life. He was calling me to love and support them.

I took a break from social media that week, and it was one of the most freeing things I’ve done. I spent more time with our daughter, enjoyed the little blessings in my day, and remembered that my worth isn’t found in likes or comments… it’s found in Christ.

Now, when I scroll, I try to practice gratitude and pray for the people I see, instead of comparing myself. And when our daughter teases me about my spaghetti pictures, I just laugh… because life isn’t about impressing people, it’s about honoring God.

Bible Promise:

God values your heart, not your status.

“The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7, NIV)

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that my identity is found in You, not in comparisons or social media. Help me to celebrate others’ joys and focus on the blessings You’ve given me. Teach me to use my time wisely and honor You in all I do. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that my identity is found in You, not in comparisons or social media. Help me to celebrate others’ joys and focus on the blessings You’ve given me. Teach me to use my time wisely and honor You in all I do. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Deborah: A Bold Leader in a Time of Fear

Deborah was a judge and prophet during one of Israel’s darkest times. The people were oppressed, fearful, and uncertain about the future. Yet Deborah stood as a beacon of courage and faith, leading Israel with wisdom and strength.

What makes Deborah’s story so powerful is her unwavering trust in God. When Barak hesitated to lead Israel into battle, Deborah stepped forward, reminding him of God’s promise of victory. Her courage inspired others to act, and through her leadership, Israel experienced deliverance.

Deborah’s story reminds us that God can use anyone, man or woman, young or old, to accomplish His purposes. Her faith and courage challenge us to step into the roles God has called us to, even when we feel unqualified or afraid.

Bezalel: God’s Artisan and the Beauty of Obedience

Bezalel might not be a name that comes to mind when you think of the Bible’s great heroes, but his story reminds us of the importance of using our God-given gifts for His glory. Bezalel was chosen by God to design and construct the Tabernacle, a place where God’s presence would dwell among His people.

What’s remarkable about Bezalel is that his work wasn’t preaching or leading an army… it was craftsmanship. God equipped him with the Spirit, wisdom, and skill to create something beautiful and sacred. Bezalel’s obedience in using his talents reminds us that every gift, whether it seems ordinary or extraordinary, has a place in God’s plan.

Today, we can learn from Bezalel’s story by recognizing that our unique abilities are God-given and meant to glorify Him. Whether you’re an artist, teacher, parent, or engineer, your work matters when it’s done in obedience to God and for His glory.

  2. How does Bezalel’s story encourage you to view your work as an act of worship?

Living with Intentionality: Making Each Day Count

Life is fleeting, and each day is a gift. Yet, it’s so easy to get caught up in the busyness of life, losing sight of what truly matters. Living with intentionality means making a conscious effort to align your priorities with God’s purpose for your life.

I’ve had seasons where I felt like I was just going through the motions… checking off tasks without truly engaging with what God was calling me to do. But when I began seeking His guidance each morning, asking Him to direct my steps, I found a deeper sense of purpose and fulfillment.

Living intentionally starts with prayer, reflection, and a willingness to let go of distractions. It’s about prioritizing what matters most, your relationship with God, your family, and the mission He’s given you. When we live with intentionality, we honor God and make each day count for His glory.

Reflection Questions

  1. What distractions are keeping you from living intentionally?
  2. How can you align your daily choices with God’s purpose for your life?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of each day. Teach me to live with intentionality, focusing on what matters most and aligning my life with Your purpose. Help me to make each moment count for Your glory and to reflect Your love in all I do. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Resilience in the Face of Brokenness

Resilience isn’t something you know you have until life forces you to use it. For me, resilience became a necessity after my marriage ended. I didn’t feel strong or capable, but every day, I had to choose to get up, keep moving, and trust that God would meet me in my weakness.

Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 remind me that resilience doesn’t come from our own strength, it comes from God. Being hard-pressed, perplexed, and struck down are real experiences, but because of Christ, we are not crushed, abandoned, or destroyed.

Resilience doesn’t mean pretending everything is okay. It means acknowledging the pain and choosing to trust God through it. It’s in the moments when I wanted to quit that I learned to lean on Him the most.

One of the hardest parts of resilience is letting God use your brokenness for His glory. There were times I questioned whether anything good could come from my situation, but now, I see how He’s used it to strengthen me, deepen my faith, and encourage others.

If you’re facing a season of brokenness, know this: You don’t have to be strong on your own. God’s power is made perfect in your weakness, and His grace will sustain you.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for being my strength when I feel weak. Teach me to trust You through the hard times and to rely on Your grace each day. Help me to see how You’re working, even in the brokenness. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Overcoming the Fear of Failure

Fear of failure can be paralyzing, keeping us from stepping into the plans God has for us. Whether it’s fear of letting others down, not measuring up, or facing criticism, this fear often holds us back from walking in obedience and faith.

I’ve wrestled with the fear of failure in my own life, hesitating to take risks because I was afraid of what others might think or of falling short. But God reminds us that He hasn’t given us a spirit of fear. Instead, He equips us with power, love, and a sound mind to face challenges with confidence.

Failure isn’t the end… it’s a stepping stone. When we trust God with our fears, He uses even our missteps for His glory. He calls us to step out in faith, not in our own strength but in His. Remember, God isn’t looking for perfection; He’s looking for a willing heart.

Reflection Questions

  1. What fears are holding you back from stepping into God’s plans for your life?
  2. How can you replace fear with faith, trusting in God’s power and love?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for equipping me with power, love, and a sound mind. Teach me to overcome the fear of failure and to trust You fully in every step I take. Help me to walk in faith, knowing that You are with me and that Your plans are good. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Embracing Change as a Catalyst for Growth

Change is inevitable, but it’s often uncomfortable. Whether it’s a new season in life, an unexpected challenge, or a door closing, change can leave us feeling uncertain. But in God’s hands, change becomes a powerful tool for growth and transformation.

I’ve faced seasons of change that I didn’t understand at the time. Moments when I questioned God’s plan and wrestled with fear. But looking back, I can see how those changes stretched me, strengthened my faith, and brought me closer to Him.

Embracing change doesn’t mean it will always be easy, but it does mean trusting that God is working for your good (Romans 8:28). He uses change to refine us, redirect us, and remind us that His plans are far greater than anything we could imagine.

Instead of resisting change, ask God to help you see it through His eyes. Trust Him to make a way in the wilderness and to use every season for His glory and your growth.

Reflection Questions

  1. How has God used change to grow you in the past?
  2. What steps can you take to embrace change with faith and trust in God’s plan?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for using change as a catalyst for growth in my life. Teach me to trust You in every season, even when I don’t understand. Help me to embrace the new things You are doing and to follow Your lead with faith and confidence. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

The Cities of Tyre and Sidon: Fulfilled Prophecy

The ancient cities of Tyre and Sidon, located on the Mediterranean coast, were centers of commerce and power. However, the prophet Ezekiel foretold their downfall, declaring that Tyre would be destroyed and never fully rebuilt (Ezekiel 26). History and archaeology affirm the accuracy of this prophecy.

Alexander the Great famously conquered Tyre by building a causeway to its island fortress, fulfilling Ezekiel’s vision of nations coming against the city. Today, Tyre is a modest fishing town, far removed from its former glory, just as the prophecy predicted.

Sidon also faced judgment, though it continued to exist in a diminished state. These fulfilled prophecies remind us of God’s sovereignty and the reliability of His Word. They encourage us to trust in His plans, even when they seem beyond our understanding.

Reflection Questions

  1. How do fulfilled prophecies like Tyre and Sidon’s destruction strengthen your confidence in God’s Word?
  2. What areas of your life require trusting in God’s sovereignty and timing?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the fulfilled prophecies that affirm Your Word and sovereignty. Teach me to trust in Your plans, knowing that You are faithful and in control. Help me to share the truth of Your Word with others, pointing them to Your greatness. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

The Power of Daily Surrender

Personal growth in Christ begins with daily surrender. It’s the decision to lay down your own desires, plans, and pride, choosing instead to trust God’s will and follow His lead.

Surrender isn’t easy, it requires humility, faith, and a willingness to let go of control. I’ve struggled with surrender, especially in seasons when God’s plans didn’t align with mine. But in those moments, I’ve discovered that His plans are always better, even when they don’t make sense at the time.

Daily surrender means starting each day by acknowledging God’s sovereignty and inviting Him to guide your steps. It’s a posture of trust that allows Him to work in and through you in ways you never imagined. Growth happens when we stop striving in our own strength and start relying on His.

Reflection Questions

  1. What areas of your life are hardest to surrender to God?
  2. How can you practice daily surrender as part of your spiritual growth?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the invitation to follow You and to surrender my life to Your will. Teach me to trust You in every area of my life, laying down my own plans and desires to embrace Yours. Help me to grow through daily surrender, reflecting Your love and purpose in all I do. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.
