Celebrating Love, Family, and Ministry

Today, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude as my wife and I celebrate another year of marriage. Our journey together has been one of faith, hope, and love, and I’m continually amazed by the way God has knit our hearts together… not just as husband and wife, but as partners in ministry and life.

My wife is my greatest earthly blessing. Her heart for God, our family, and the church inspires me every day. Whether we’re leading together in ministry, laughing around the dinner table, or dreaming about the future, I see God’s hand in every part of our story.

Our marriage isn’t perfect, but it’s built on the foundation of God’s love, and that makes all the difference. I’m thankful for the ways we’ve grown closer through challenges and celebrated together in joy. My prayer is that we continue to seek God first in everything, allowing His love to guide and sustain us for many years to come.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you celebrate the gift of marriage in ways that glorify God?
  2. What steps can you take to keep Christ at the center of your relationship?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of marriage and for the blessing of my wife in my life. Teach us to love each other as You love us and to serve You faithfully together. Help us to honor You in our family, ministry, and every part of our journey. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Standing Firm Against Marijuana

The growing push to legalize marijuana, both recreationally and medically, has sparked countless debates in our communities. As someone who’s been part of the National Stomp Out Smoking campaign and the fight for the 2006 Clean Indoor Air Act in Arkansas, I’ve seen firsthand how harmful substances can devastate lives.

While advocates tout marijuana’s potential benefits, it’s important to distinguish between its components. CBD, a non-psychoactive compound, has shown promise in treating certain conditions without the mind-altering effects. However, THC, the compound responsible for the “high,” raises significant concerns. It doesn’t heal, it numbs. It masks pain instead of addressing its root cause, offering a temporary escape rather than real solutions.

As Christians, we’re called to honor God with our bodies, treating them as temples of the Holy Spirit. Substances that alter our minds or lead us to escape reality undermine this calling. Our denomination, the Assembly of God, takes a firm stance on this issue, placing marijuana in the same category as alcohol: something to be avoided because it impairs judgment and opens the door to destructive habits.

Standing firm against marijuana isn’t about being out of touch, it’s about valuing life, clarity, and God’s design. Let’s continue to advocate for healthier solutions and trust God to provide wisdom and healing without relying on substances that alter who He’s called us to be.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us the wisdom to discern what honors You. Help us to make choices that reflect Your design for our lives and to advocate for solutions that bring true healing. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

God’s Design for Rest

Rest is not just a suggestion, it’s part of God’s design. From the very beginning, God modeled rest by pausing on the seventh day to enjoy His creation. The Sabbath isn’t just about physical rest; it’s about spiritual renewal and reconnecting with God.

In our fast-paced world, it can be tempting to equate busyness with productivity. I’ve fallen into the trap of thinking that if I stop, I’m falling behind. But God reminds us that true rest is found in Him, not in our accomplishments.

Taking a Sabbath isn’t about following rules; it’s about following God’s rhythm for life. When we set aside time to rest and reflect, we honor Him and create space for His presence to renew and refresh us.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you prioritize rest in your weekly routine as God designed?
  2. What would it look like to dedicate a day to physical and spiritual renewal?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for designing rest as a gift and a reminder of Your provision. Teach me to honor the Sabbath by trusting You and setting aside time to focus on Your presence. Help me to rest in You, finding renewal for my body and spirit. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Cultivating the Fruit of the Spirit: A Journey of Transformation

As we conclude this series on the Fruit of the Spirit, it’s important to remember that cultivating these traits isn’t about striving harder. It’s about staying connected to Christ. Jesus reminds us in John 15 that we are the branches, and He is the vine. Only by abiding in Him can we bear fruit that lasts.

There have been seasons in my life where I tried to “force” fruit to grow… trying to love more, be more patient, or practice self-control through sheer willpower. But those efforts often left me frustrated and exhausted. True transformation comes when we surrender to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to work in us.

The Fruit of the Spirit is evidence of God’s presence in our lives. As we spend time in His Word, seek Him in prayer, and walk in obedience, He molds us into the image of Christ. It’s a lifelong journey, but one that brings incredible joy, peace, and purpose.

Let’s commit to abiding in Him, trusting that He will continue to cultivate love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control in us.

Reflection Questions

  1. Which fruit of the Spirit have you seen God grow in your life recently?
  2. How can you remain more deeply connected to Christ in your daily walk?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the work You are doing in my life to cultivate the Fruit of the Spirit. Teach me to remain in You, trusting Your Spirit to transform my heart and character. Help me to reflect Your love, joy, peace, and every fruit in all I do. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Self-Control: Mastering Our Desires

Self-control is perhaps one of the most challenging fruits of the Spirit to cultivate, yet it’s essential for living a God-honoring life. In a world that promotes instant gratification and indulgence, self-control calls us to pause, reflect, and choose God’s way over our own desires.

I’ve faced moments where my emotions, impulses, or circumstances tempted me to act in ways that didn’t align with my faith. Whether it was holding my tongue in an argument, resisting the urge to give in to frustration, or staying disciplined in prayer and study, self-control often felt like an uphill battle. But the truth is, self-control isn’t something we can achieve on our own. It’s a work of the Holy Spirit in us.

Self-control empowers us to say no to what’s harmful and yes to what’s holy. It helps us master our desires, guard our hearts, and align our lives with God’s will. As we surrender to the Spirit’s leading, we find the strength to overcome temptation and walk in freedom.

Reflection Questions

  1. In what areas of your life is God calling you to practice greater self-control?
  2. How can you rely on the Holy Spirit to help you overcome temptation and grow in discipline?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of self-control and the power of the Holy Spirit to guide me. Teach me to master my desires and to choose Your way over my own. Help me to reflect Your character in every decision and to walk in freedom and obedience. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Gentleness: Strength Under Control

Gentleness is often misunderstood as weakness, but in reality, it’s strength under control. It’s choosing to respond with kindness and humility, even when we have the power to do otherwise. As a fruit of the Spirit, gentleness reflects the heart of Christ, who described Himself as “gentle and humble in heart” (Matthew 11:29).

There have been times in my life when responding with gentleness felt impossible… moments when frustration, pride, or anger threatened to take over. But in those moments, the Holy Spirit reminded me that gentleness isn’t about being passive; it’s about choosing to reflect God’s love and grace.

Gentleness transforms relationships. It diffuses conflict, builds trust, and creates space for God’s Spirit to work. When we allow gentleness to shape our actions and words, we reflect the character of Christ and draw others closer to Him.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you practice gentleness in your interactions this week?
  2. What situations challenge your ability to respond with gentleness, and how can you rely on the Holy Spirit in those moments?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for teaching me the power of gentleness. Help me to respond with kindness and humility in every situation, reflecting Your love to those around me. Teach me to rely on Your Spirit for strength and self-control. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Faithfulness: Standing Firm in a Shifting World

Faithfulness is a rare and beautiful quality in today’s world. It’s about staying true to God, to others, and to the commitments we’ve made, even when it’s difficult. As a fruit of the Spirit, faithfulness reflects the unwavering nature of God’s love and promises.

I’ve faced seasons where being faithful wasn’t easy… moments when it would have been simpler to give up, walk away, or compromise. But in those times, God reminded me of His faithfulness to me. He never wavers, never abandons, and never breaks His promises.

Faithfulness means standing firm in our faith, trusting God’s plan, and honoring our commitments. It’s about showing up, even when it’s hard, and letting God’s Spirit guide us in every decision. When we live out faithfulness, we become a reflection of His unchanging love to a world that desperately needs stability.

Reflection Questions

  1. In what areas of your life are you being called to greater faithfulness?
  2. How can you reflect God’s faithfulness in your relationships and commitments?

Help me to reflect Your love and trustworthiness to those around me, even in challenging seasons. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Goodness: Living a Life That Reflects God

Goodness is a reflection of God’s character. It’s not just about doing good deeds. It’s about allowing His Spirit to transform us so that our lives reflect His heart. True goodness comes from a place of integrity, righteousness, and love for others, grounded in our relationship with Christ.

I’ve found that goodness often requires intentionality. It’s easy to focus on what’s convenient or beneficial for ourselves, but the Holy Spirit calls us to step beyond that. Goodness means living in a way that points others to God, whether through acts of generosity, honesty, or compassion.

When we allow God’s goodness to flow through us, it impacts not only our actions but also our attitudes and relationships. The fruit of goodness isn’t about perfection… it’s about reflecting His grace and letting His love shine through our lives.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you reflect God’s goodness in your actions and attitudes this week?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your goodness and mercy that follow me every day. Teach me to reflect Your character in my life, showing Your love and grace to those around me. Help me to live with integrity and to seek ways to share Your goodness with others. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Kindness: Reflecting God’s Love in Action

Kindness is more than just being polite… it’s an intentional choice to reflect God’s love in our actions. It’s about showing compassion, extending grace, and putting others’ needs above our own.

I’ve seen how simple acts of kindness can make a profound impact, especially in moments when people least expect it. Whether it’s offering a word of encouragement, lending a helping hand, or forgiving someone who’s wronged us, kindness has the power to point others to Christ.

But let’s be honest, kindness doesn’t always come naturally. There are times when frustration, pride, or selfishness get in the way. That’s why kindness is a fruit of the Spirit, it grows in us as we draw closer to God and allow Him to transform our hearts.

When we choose kindness, we reflect the heart of God. It’s a tangible way to show His love to a world that desperately needs it.

  2. What situations challenge your ability to be kind, and how can you rely on the Holy Spirit in those moments?

Help me to be a vessel of Your grace, pointing people to You through my life. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Patience: Waiting Well in a Fast-Paced World

Patience is a fruit of the Spirit that often feels elusive, especially in a world that values instant gratification. Whether we’re waiting on God’s timing, enduring a difficult season, or navigating daily frustrations, patience challenges us to trust Him completely.

I’ve struggled with patience in my own life, particularly during seasons of waiting for answers or resolution. In those moments, I’ve learned that patience isn’t passive. It’s an active choice to trust God’s timing and remain steadfast in faith.

Patience teaches us to let go of control and lean into God’s grace. It reminds us that His plans are better than ours and that He is always working, even when we can’t see it. As the Holy Spirit cultivates patience in us, we become a reflection of His character, showing the world what it means to trust in His faithfulness.

  1. Where is God calling you to practice patience in your life?
  2. How can trusting God’s timing help you endure seasons of waiting?
