Lead Us Not Into Temptation

When we pray, “Lead us not into temptation,” we’re asking God for guidance and protection. It’s not that God tempts us, Scripture is clear that He doesn’t (James 1:13), but we recognize our need for His help in avoiding situations that could lead us into sin.

I’ve faced seasons where temptation felt overwhelming. Whether it was anger, pride, or fear, I often thought I could handle it on my own. But those moments reminded me how much I need God’s strength. Praying for Him to lead me away from temptation isn’t about weakness. It’s about wisdom and humility.

This prayer acknowledges our human frailty and our need for God’s guidance. It’s a reminder to stay close to Him, to rely on His Word, and to walk in step with the Holy Spirit. When we trust God to lead us, we find the strength to resist temptation and live in alignment with His will.

Reflection Questions

  1. What temptations are you facing, and how can you seek God’s help in resisting them?
  2. How can staying close to God through prayer and Scripture protect you from falling into sin?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for being my strength and guide. Teach me to rely on You when I face temptation and to trust in Your wisdom and power. Lead me away from anything that could separate me from You, and help me to walk in obedience to Your will. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Do Not Worry

Worry is a burden we often carry, even though Jesus invites us to lay it down. In Matthew 6:25, He reminds us that life is more than the things we stress about. God, who takes care of the birds and flowers, is more than capable of meeting our needs.

I’ve struggled with worry in the past, especially during seasons of uncertainty. Whether it was financial concerns or fears about the future, worry often consumed my thoughts. But when I brought my anxieties to God, He replaced them with peace. His faithfulness reminded me that I didn’t have to have all the answers… He already did.

Worry doesn’t change our circumstances; it only steals our joy. Trusting God frees us to focus on His kingdom, knowing He cares for us and will provide. When we let go of worry, we make space for His peace to guard our hearts and minds.

Reflection Questions

  1. What worries are weighing you down today, and how can you surrender them to God?
  2. How has God’s faithfulness in the past strengthened your trust in Him?

Prayer

Help me to focus on Your kingdom, knowing that You care for me. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Seeking First the Kingdom of God

Jesus calls us to seek God’s kingdom and righteousness above everything else, trusting Him to provide for our needs. This isn’t about neglecting our responsibilities… it’s about prioritizing God’s purposes over our own desires.

There was a season in my life when worry consumed me. I focused on trying to control everything. Finances, relationships, and future plans. But as I meditated on this verse, I realized I was seeking my kingdom, not God’s. When I surrendered my plans to Him and sought His will first, I experienced peace and provision in ways I never expected.

Seeking God’s kingdom means aligning our goals, actions, and desires with His Word. It’s trusting that He knows what we need and will provide in His perfect timing. When we put Him first, we discover that everything else falls into place according to His plan.

Deliver Us From the Evil One

The reality of spiritual warfare is evident throughout Scripture, and Jesus teaches us to pray for protection from the evil one. This part of the prayer reminds us that we’re not fighting battles on our own… God is our deliverer, shielding us from harm and empowering us to stand firm.

I’ve experienced moments where I felt spiritually attacked… whether it was through discouragement, fear, or doubt. In those times, praying this part of the Lord’s Prayer gave me peace. It reminded me that God is greater than any scheme of the enemy and that His power is at work in my life.

Deliverance from the evil one doesn’t mean we’ll never face challenges, but it assures us that God is with us and that victory is already ours through Christ. When we pray for deliverance, we’re declaring our trust in His protection and our reliance on His strength.

Blessed Are the Pure in Heart

Purity of heart goes deeper than outward behavior, it’s about the motives and desires that drive us. Jesus promises that those who are pure in heart will see God, a profound blessing that begins now and culminates in eternity.

I think back to times when my heart wasn’t aligned with God’s will. I was doing the “right” things outwardly, but inwardly, I was distracted by pride, fear, or selfish desires. It wasn’t until I asked God to purify my heart that I began to experience a deeper sense of His presence and peace.

To be pure in heart means to seek God with undivided devotion, allowing Him to cleanse us from sin and distractions. It’s a daily commitment to love Him fully and to let that love shape every thought, word, and action. When our hearts are pure, we see God more clearly. Not just in heaven, but in our everyday lives.

  1. What areas of your heart need God’s refining work today?
  2. How does pursuing purity help you experience God’s presence more fully?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the promise that the pure in heart will see You. Teach me to seek You with undivided devotion and to allow Your Spirit to cleanse my heart. Help me to reflect Your love and to walk in Your peace every day. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Trusting God When Fear Creeps In

Fear can strike when we least expect it. Whether it’s fear of failure, the unknown, or something out of our control, it can paralyze us and shake our faith. Psalm 56:3 reminds us that even in our fear, we can choose to trust God.

I’ve faced moments when fear felt overwhelming, but every time I’ve turned to God, He’s given me peace. Trusting God doesn’t mean we won’t feel afraid, it means we know who to run to when we do. His perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18), reminding us that He is bigger than anything we face.

When fear creeps in, don’t let it take root. Speak God’s promises over your life, pray for His peace, and trust that He is in control.

Reflection Questions

  1. What fears are you facing today, and how can you surrender them to God?
  2. How does remembering God’s faithfulness help you combat fear?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for being my refuge and strength in times of fear. Teach me to trust You in every situation, knowing that You are in control. Help me to walk in faith and not let fear hold me back. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Esther: Courage for Such a Time as This

Esther’s story is one of courage, faith, and stepping into God’s calling despite fear. When she was faced with the decision to approach the king and risk her life to save her people, she could have chosen to stay silent. But instead, she trusted that God had placed her in that moment for a purpose.

There have been times in my life when I’ve felt like Esther. Unsure, afraid, and questioning whether I was the right person for the task. After my divorce, stepping back into ministry felt daunting. I doubted whether I could still be effective after everything that had happened.

But like Esther, I’ve learned that God places us where we are for a reason. Your past doesn’t disqualify you from His calling; it prepares you for it. Esther’s courage came not from her own strength but from trusting that God had a plan bigger than her fear.

If you’re facing a situation where you feel overwhelmed or unworthy, remember Esther’s story. You are where you are for such a time as this, and God will give you the courage to step into His calling.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that You’ve placed me here for a purpose. Give me the courage to step into Your calling, trusting that You will equip me for whatever lies ahead. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Elijah: God’s Whisper in the Storm

Elijah was one of the most powerful prophets in the Bible, but even he experienced moments of fear, doubt, and exhaustion. After his victory on Mount Carmel, where God displayed His power by consuming the altar with fire, Elijah fled in fear from Queen Jezebel’s threats. He felt so defeated that he prayed for God to take his life.

There have been moments in my life when I’ve felt just as overwhelmed. After the divorce, I felt like I had nothing left to give. I was exhausted emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Like Elijah, I wanted to run away from it all.

But God didn’t condemn Elijah for his weakness. Instead, He met him in his exhaustion. He provided food, rest, and eventually spoke to him, not in the powerful wind, earthquake, or fire, but in a gentle whisper.

That whisper reminded Elijah that God was still with him, guiding him and giving him the strength to carry on. It reminded me that God’s presence isn’t always loud or dramatic; sometimes, it’s found in the quiet moments when we stop striving and simply listen.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, take time to rest and listen for God’s whisper. He hasn’t abandoned you. He’s right there, offering you the strength and guidance you need to take the next step.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for meeting me in my moments of exhaustion and doubt. Help me to rest in Your presence and listen for Your gentle whisper. Renew my strength and guide me forward in faith. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Light of the World

When Jesus declared Himself the “Light of the World,” He offered hope to a world trapped in darkness. His light illuminates our path, dispels fear, and brings life where there was once death.

I’ll never forget a time when I felt like I was walking in a fog of confusion and doubt. It was during those days that I turned to Jesus, asking Him to guide me. His light didn’t just illuminate my path. It brought clarity, peace, and renewed purpose.

The Light That Guides: Jesus shines a light on our path, helping us navigate life with wisdom and truth (Psalm 119:105).

The Light That Dispels Darkness: His presence drives out fear, sin, and despair, replacing them with hope and joy.

The Light That Gives Life: The Light of the World offers eternal life to all who follow Him, calling us out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9).

Calling on the Light of the World reminds us that no matter how dark life may seem, Jesus is our constant source of hope and guidance.

  2. How can you reflect His light to those around you?

Overcoming Fear

Fear has a way of creeping in when you least expect it. After my divorce, I found myself battling fears I’d never faced before. Fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of what the future might hold. Even as a pastor, I wasn’t immune to the “what ifs” that seemed to follow me everywhere.

One particular night, I was lying awake, my mind racing with worry about our daughter. What kind of example was I setting for her? Was I doing enough as her dad? I felt overwhelmed, and the weight of fear threatened to crush me.

That’s when God reminded me of 2 Timothy 1:7. Fear isn’t from Him. He gives us power, love, and a sound mind, not anxiety and doubt. I began to pray, asking God to replace my fear with His peace. Slowly, I felt the tension ease.

Fear will come knocking at your door, but you don’t have to let it in. God has given us the tools to fight back, His Word, prayer, and His promises. When fear rises, remind yourself of who God is. He is your protector, your provider, and your peace.

If you’re facing fear today, know this: it doesn’t define you. God’s power is greater than any fear you’ll ever face.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that fear has no place in my life because You are with me. Replace my fear with faith and my anxiety with peace. Help me to trust You fully, no matter what I face. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.
