Discipleship and the Role of Community

Discipleship thrives in community. While one-on-one relationships are important, true discipleship often happens within the context of a group of believers who encourage, challenge, and spur one another on in their faith. Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds us of the power of gathering together and the importance of mutual encouragement.

In Kneel Ministries, we emphasize creating communities where discipleship flourishes. These are places where people feel safe to share their struggles, celebrate victories, and grow together in Christ. In community, we experience the fullness of God’s design for discipleship: iron sharpening iron and believers walking alongside one another in love and truth.

Discipleship in community also reminds us that we’re not alone. When challenges arise, there’s strength in numbers. Together, we can face difficulties, hold each other accountable, and grow deeper in our walk with Christ.

Multiplying Disciples: The Power of Reproducing Faith

The heart of discipleship is multiplication. Paul’s charge to Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:2 reveals the ultimate goal: to entrust the truths of the gospel to others who will continue the cycle of teaching and discipling. This creates a ripple effect that can transform families, churches, and communities for generations.

In leadership, we can’t stop at simply teaching. We must equip others to teach as well. This means investing in people not just for their own growth, but for the growth of those they will impact. It’s about seeing beyond the immediate and trusting God to use our efforts to produce fruit that will last.

Discipleship isn’t always glamorous or fast-paced. It requires patience, prayer, and persistence. But the reward of seeing someone you’ve discipled go on to disciple others is a powerful reminder of God’s faithfulness.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you prioritize multiplication in your discipleship efforts?
  2. What steps can you take to equip others to become disciple-makers?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the power of multiplication in discipleship. Teach me to entrust the truths of Your Word to others who will carry them forward. Help me to invest with patience, persistence, and faith, knowing that You will bring the harvest. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Discipleship: The Heart of Leadership

At its core, leadership in the church is about discipleship. Jesus’ Great Commission calls us to make disciples, teaching them to obey everything He has commanded. This isn’t just a task for pastors, it’s a call for every believer.

Discipleship involves walking alongside others, helping them grow in their faith and equipping them to make disciples themselves. It’s about investing time, energy, and love into people’s lives, pointing them to Jesus through your words and actions.

Jesus’ example shows us that discipleship is relational. He didn’t just preach to the crowds. He spent time with His disciples, teaching, encouraging, and challenging them. As leaders, we’re called to follow His example, pouring into others with intentionality and grace.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you prioritize discipleship in your leadership role?
  2. Who in your life might God be calling you to disciple?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the privilege of making disciples and for the example You’ve given us in Jesus. Teach me to lead with love, humility, and intentionality, helping others grow in their faith and fulfill their calling. Help me to honor You in all I do. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Leading by Serving: The Heart of True Leadership

Leadership in the church isn’t about power or position… it’s about serving others. Jesus, the ultimate example of leadership, came not to be served but to serve. He washed the feet of His disciples, fed the hungry, and gave His life for humanity. If the King of Kings modeled servant leadership, how much more should we as His followers?

Servant leadership means putting the needs of others above your own. It means leading with humility, empathy, and a heart for God’s people. Whether it’s pastors, ministry leaders, or anyone in a position of influence, true leadership is about building others up and pointing them to Christ.

It’s easy to get caught up in the tasks of leadership, planning events, managing teams, or growing ministries. But at its core, leadership is about relationships. It’s about investing in others, listening to their needs, and encouraging them in their faith journey.

This doesn’t mean leadership is easy. Serving others can be exhausting, especially when you feel unappreciated or overwhelmed. But when we remember that our work is ultimately for God’s glory, it gives us the strength to keep going.

Jesus reminds us in Mark 10:45 that greatness in His kingdom is found in serving. As leaders, let’s strive to follow His example, leading with humility, compassion, and a servant’s heart.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you practice servant leadership in your role, whether in ministry, work, or home?
  2. What steps can you take to lead with humility and empathy, following Jesus’ example?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the example of servant leadership You’ve given us in Jesus. Teach me to lead with humility, love, and a heart for others. Help me to remember that leadership is about serving and glorifying You. Strengthen me to lead well, even when it’s difficult, and to reflect Your love in all I do. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

The Ripple Effect of Choices in Leadership

Leadership in ministry is a sacred trust. When a pastor or leader falls, the consequences often ripple far beyond their own life. It impacts their family, their congregation, and even the broader community of faith. This truth has never been more evident to me than when I witnessed the effects of a pastor’s personal choices on the people they once led with love and dedication.

For seven years, this leader faithfully served, baptizing over 150 people, mentoring families, and leaving an indelible mark on a church and its community. But choices were made. Choices that led to a departure not just from ministry but from the lives of those they once shepherded. And in the wake of those choices, confusion, hurt, and questions arose.

The Bible warns us of the serious responsibility that comes with leadership. Jesus Himself spoke about the danger of causing others to stumble, emphasizing the gravity of our influence. When a leader falls, especially one who was deeply trusted, the spiritual and emotional impact on others can be devastating.

Children who looked up to that leader may wrestle with doubt. Families who were once encouraged by their words and actions might now struggle to reconcile the person they knew with the decisions they see. The ripples are far-reaching, affecting faith journeys, relationships, and even the overall witness of the church.

This isn’t about pointing fingers; it’s about recognizing the profound responsibility we all bear in representing Christ. Whether in ministry or daily life, our choices carry weight. They can either point others to Jesus or cause them to question their faith.

But there’s hope. Even when mistakes are made, God’s grace is sufficient. Healing is possible for those who have stumbled and for those who were hurt in the aftermath. It starts with repentance, accountability, and a commitment to restore what was broken.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can we guard our own hearts and lives to ensure our actions reflect Christ?
  2. What steps can we take to support those who have been hurt by the failures of leaders?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for entrusting us with the responsibility of representing You. Teach us to walk with integrity, humility, and love so that our actions point others to You. Heal those who have been hurt by the choices of leaders, and restore their faith in You. Help us to remain faithful, knowing that our lives have an eternal impact. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Growing in Faith

Faith isn’t something we master overnight. It’s a journey of continual growth. Just like a plant needs water and sunlight, our faith needs to be nurtured with prayer, Scripture, and fellowship. Growing in faith is about drawing closer to God and becoming more like Christ.

I remember a time when my faith felt stagnant. I went through the motions of prayer and church, but something was missing. It wasn’t until I committed to daily Bible study and intentional prayer that my faith began to deepen. The more I sought God, the more I saw His presence in every aspect of my life.

2 Peter 3:18 calls us to grow in grace and knowledge. This growth doesn’t happen passively; it requires effort and surrender. As we invest time in our relationship with God, He transforms us from the inside out, equipping us to live out our faith in every area of life.

Reflection Questions

  1. What steps can you take to grow deeper in your relationship with God?
  2. How has God grown your faith through past challenges?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me to grow in grace and knowledge. Teach me to seek You daily and to trust You with every part of my life. Help me to reflect Your love and truth as I continue on this journey of faith. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Teaching the Word and Prioritizing Church

As parents, one of the greatest gifts we can give our children is a foundation in God’s Word and a commitment to His Church. These are the pillars that will sustain them through life’s challenges, shaping their faith and guiding their decisions.

In today’s culture, it’s easy for church to take a backseat to travel sports, weekend events, or other commitments. While these activities have value, nothing can replace the eternal impact of consistent worship, biblical teaching, and Christian community.

Teaching our children the Word isn’t just about memorizing verses… it’s about helping them see how Scripture applies to their lives. It’s about modeling a love for God’s Word and showing them how it shapes our decisions, attitudes, and priorities. When children see that church and Scripture are non-negotiables in our lives, they’ll understand their importance in theirs.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you make church and Scripture a priority in your family’s routine?
  2. What steps can you take to help your children develop a personal love for God’s Word?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of Your Word and the community of Your Church. Teach me to model a love for Scripture and worship in my home. Help me to prioritize these eternal treasures in my family’s life and to guide my children to know and love You. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

The Church Potluck Fiasco

Date: June 12, 2024

Bible Verse:

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31, NIV)

Message (Longer with a Fun Twist):

There’s nothing quite like a church potluck, rows upon rows of casseroles, baked goods, and mysterious slow-cooker concoctions. One Sunday, we decided to have a big celebration after service. Everyone pitched in, and the fellowship hall was soon packed with more aluminum pans and Crock-Pots than I’d ever seen.

That’s when disaster struck. One of the youth decided to help by moving the dessert table, unaware that the table legs weren’t locked. Right in the middle of the pastor’s final prayer, we heard a collective gasp… followed by the thunderous crash of the entire dessert spread hitting the floor.

Pies went flying, cakes collapsed, and sticky icing ended up all over the place (including on the back of my pants!). The congregation stood there in stunned silence until an elderly lady in the front started laughing. Suddenly, everyone joined in, including me.

We spent the next hour cleaning icing off walls and scraping pie filling from the tile floor. But you know what? That little fiasco turned into an incredible bonding moment. People joked, swapped stories, and helped each other salvage whatever dessert survived.

God has a funny way of reminding us that fellowship isn’t about everything being perfect, it’s about coming together, even in messes. We might have lost half our desserts, but we gained a sweet memory of how laughter and grace can bring a church family closer together.

Bible Promise:

God can turn our mishaps into moments of unity.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.” (Romans 8:28, NIV)

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the joy that comes from gathering together, even when things don’t go according to plan. Help us to laugh, learn, and grow closer through life’s little disasters. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

A Year of Joy and Ministry

This has been such a joyful year. My wife, our daughter, our son, and I have shared so many special moments together, from family outings to quiet evenings at home. My wife has been thriving in her new job, where she’s found opportunities to minister outside of the church walls. Her excitement and passion for helping others have been such an inspiration to me.

Today, as I celebrate my birthday, I’m filled with gratitude for this season of life. It’s a reminder to rejoice in the Lord for the blessings He has given, both big and small. The laughter of my children, the love of my wife, and the joy of serving God together are gifts I treasure deeply.

Jason’s story in the Bible reminds me that faithfulness in every season brings glory to God. Whether through ministry, parenting, or simply living out His love, we are called to rejoice in Him and trust His plans.

  1. How can you rejoice in the Lord, even in the small, everyday blessings?
  2. How does seeing others thrive in their calling inspire you to live out yours?

Help me to support and encourage those around me as they live out their calling. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Intimacy as a Reflection of God’s Love

Intimacy in marriage is more than a physical act… it’s a reflection of God’s love and covenant with His people. When approached with love, respect, and selflessness, it mirrors the relationship between Christ and the Church.

I’ve often marveled at how God designed intimacy to create a deep bond between husband and wife. It’s a place where vulnerability meets trust, where love is expressed without words. However, it’s also an area that requires effort and intentionality to thrive.

When intimacy is approached with God’s design in mind, it becomes an act of worship, a way to honor Him by loving your spouse well. This means prioritizing your spouse’s needs, maintaining open communication, and inviting God into your marriage. Let intimacy be a reflection of God’s unconditional love and grace in your relationship.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you view intimacy in marriage as a reflection of God’s love?
  2. What practical steps can you take to honor your spouse in this area?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for creating intimacy as a reflection of Your love. Teach me to honor my spouse and to approach intimacy with selflessness and grace. Help us to grow closer to You and each other, building a marriage that glorifies You. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.
