Teaching the Word and Prioritizing Church

As parents, one of the greatest gifts we can give our children is a foundation in God’s Word and a commitment to His Church. These are the pillars that will sustain them through life’s challenges, shaping their faith and guiding their decisions.

In today’s culture, it’s easy for church to take a backseat to travel sports, weekend events, or other commitments. While these activities have value, nothing can replace the eternal impact of consistent worship, biblical teaching, and Christian community.

Teaching our children the Word isn’t just about memorizing verses… it’s about helping them see how Scripture applies to their lives. It’s about modeling a love for God’s Word and showing them how it shapes our decisions, attitudes, and priorities. When children see that church and Scripture are non-negotiables in our lives, they’ll understand their importance in theirs.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you make church and Scripture a priority in your family’s routine?
  2. What steps can you take to help your children develop a personal love for God’s Word?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of Your Word and the community of Your Church. Teach me to model a love for Scripture and worship in my home. Help me to prioritize these eternal treasures in my family’s life and to guide my children to know and love You. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Effective and Godly Discipline: Guiding with Love and Purpose

Discipline is a vital part of parenting, but it’s often misunderstood or misapplied. Godly discipline isn’t about punishment, it’s about teaching, guiding, and correcting in a way that reflects God’s love and leads our children toward righteousness.

Effective discipline starts with consistency and love. It’s not about reacting out of anger or frustration but about taking the time to teach and correct in a way that shapes the heart, not just the behavior. Whether it’s time-outs, loss of privileges, or other age-appropriate methods, discipline should always be rooted in the desire to help your child grow.

The Bible warns against harsh discipline that provokes children to anger (Ephesians 6:4). This reminds us that our goal is not to break their spirit but to guide them in understanding the difference between right and wrong. God disciplines us with love and patience, and we are called to do the same for our children.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you approach discipline in a way that reflects God’s love and patience?
  2. Are there areas in your parenting where you need to grow in consistency or grace?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the privilege of guiding and teaching my children. Help me to discipline them with love, patience, and wisdom, reflecting Your heart in all I do. Teach me to correct in a way that leads them closer to You and shapes their character for Your glory. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

The Call to Parenting: A Sacred Responsibility

Parenting is one of the greatest callings God can give. Children are described in Scripture as a heritage and reward, entrusted to us for a season to nurture, teach, and guide. But this calling is not without challenges, and it’s important to approach it with humility, grace, and dependence on God.

While many experience the joy of raising children, we must also remember and be sensitive to those who long for children but cannot have them. Their journey is one of courage and faith, and they reflect God’s heart in their love for others, even when the gift of biological parenting remains unfulfilled.

For those called to parenting, it’s vital to recognize the weight of this responsibility. We are tasked with pointing our children to Christ, modeling His love, and equipping them to walk in His ways. This calling is not about perfection but about surrendering our parenting to God and trusting Him to work through our efforts.

Reflection Questions

  1. How does viewing children as a heritage from the Lord shape your approach to parenting?
  2. How can you support and encourage those who long for children but cannot have them?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the sacred calling of parenting and for entrusting me with the gift of children. Teach me to nurture them with love and grace, pointing them to You in all I do. Help me to honor those who cannot have children, showing compassion and support for their journey. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

A Year of Joy and Ministry

This has been such a joyful year. My wife, our daughter, our son, and I have shared so many special moments together, from family outings to quiet evenings at home. My wife has been thriving in her new job, where she’s found opportunities to minister outside of the church walls. Her excitement and passion for helping others have been such an inspiration to me.

Today, as I celebrate my birthday, I’m filled with gratitude for this season of life. It’s a reminder to rejoice in the Lord for the blessings He has given, both big and small. The laughter of my children, the love of my wife, and the joy of serving God together are gifts I treasure deeply.

Jason’s story in the Bible reminds me that faithfulness in every season brings glory to God. Whether through ministry, parenting, or simply living out His love, we are called to rejoice in Him and trust His plans.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you rejoice in the Lord, even in the small, everyday blessings?
  2. How does seeing others thrive in their calling inspire you to live out yours?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the joy and blessings of this year. Teach me to rejoice in You always, celebrating Your goodness in every season. Help me to support and encourage those around me as they live out their calling. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

It’s also been a year where she’s taken on challenges with resilience, reminding us of how God is shaping her character.

Types of Biblical Fasts

Throughout Scripture, fasting appears in many forms, each serving a unique purpose. Understanding the different types of biblical fasts can inspire us to approach this discipline with intentionality and purpose, deepening our relationship with God.

The Full Fast:

In a full fast, individuals abstain from all food and drink for a set period of time, relying solely on God for strength. Moses and Elijah both engaged in this type of fast for 40 days (Exodus 34:28; 1 Kings 19:8). This fast is often undertaken for deep spiritual focus and extraordinary circumstances.

The Partial Fast:

Daniel practiced a partial fast by abstaining from certain foods, choosing only vegetables and water for 10 days (Daniel 1:12). This fast focuses on self-discipline and devotion, prioritizing spiritual nourishment over physical cravings.

The Absolute Fast:

During an absolute fast, no food or water is consumed. This type of fast is rare and usually brief, as seen in Esther’s call for a three-day fast before approaching the king (Esther 4:16). It’s often accompanied by urgent prayer for God’s intervention.

The Corporate Fast:

In moments of national or communal need, God’s people often engaged in corporate fasting. For example, King Jehoshaphat called for a fast across Judah to seek God’s help against their enemies (2 Chronicles 20:3). Corporate fasts unite believers in seeking God’s guidance, provision, or protection.

The Personal Fast:

Jesus encouraged personal fasting in secret, emphasizing that it’s between the individual and God (Matthew 6:16-18). This type of fast fosters intimacy with God and allows for personal spiritual renewal.

Reflection Questions

  1. Which type of biblical fast resonates most with you, and why?
  2. How can you use fasting to grow closer to God in your current season?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the examples of fasting throughout Your Word. Teach me to approach fasting with intentionality and humility, seeking to grow closer to You. Help me to discern the type of fast that best aligns with Your will for my life. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Reclaiming God’s Design for Intimacy

God’s design for intimacy is beautiful, sacred, and purposeful. From the very beginning, He created marriage as a covenant relationship where intimacy reflects His love, unity, and creativity. But in a world that distorts this design, it’s easy to lose sight of its original beauty.

The misuse of intimacy, through pornography, casual relationships, or self-gratification, cheapens what God intended to be holy and life-giving. I’ve seen how these distortions leave people feeling empty, ashamed, and disconnected from God’s purpose for their lives.

Reclaiming God’s design for intimacy starts with repentance and a renewed focus on His Word. It means choosing to honor Him in our relationships, thoughts, and actions. When we align with His plan, we discover the depth of connection and joy that only comes from living according to His will.

Reflection Questions

  1. How does understanding God’s design for intimacy challenge the way you approach relationships or struggles?
  2. What steps can you take to realign your view of intimacy with God’s purpose?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for creating intimacy as a reflection of Your love and covenant. Forgive me for the ways I’ve strayed from Your design, and help me to honor You in my thoughts, actions, and relationships. Teach me to live in alignment with Your purpose, reflecting Your love in all I do. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Beauty from the Ashes

There was a time when all I could see were the ashes of my life… the broken pieces of my marriage, the pain my children were carrying, and the uncertainty of the future. But God has a way of bringing beauty out of even the darkest places.

It didn’t happen overnight, and it didn’t happen the way I expected. But through prayer, reflection, and leaning into His promises, I began to see glimpses of hope. My relationship with my children grew stronger. God revealed areas in my life that needed healing, and He began to transform my heart.

One of the most humbling moments was watching my daughter find joy in small things, her laugh, her creativity, her resilience reminded me that God was still working, even when I couldn’t see it. He was turning ashes into beauty, step by step.

If you’re in a season of mourning or despair, hold onto this truth: God isn’t finished. He specializes in redemption, and He will bring beauty from the ashes of your life in His perfect time.

Reflection Questions

  1. Where have you seen God bring beauty from ashes in your life?
  2. How can you trust Him to continue His work of redemption, even in difficult circumstances?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your promise to bring beauty from ashes. Teach me to trust Your timing and to look for glimpses of hope in the midst of the brokenness. Help me to hold onto Your promises and to reflect Your joy and peace to those around me. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Our Son’s 22nd Birthday: Stepping into New Adventures

Today we celebrate our son’s 22nd birthday, and this year marks the beginning of an incredible new chapter in his life. our son has stepped into the world of military service, completing Basic Combat Training (BCT) as a Distinguished Honor graduate and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) with high honors. His dedication, discipline, and drive inspire me and everyone who knows him.

Watching our son take on these challenges has been a reminder of God’s faithfulness and strength in his life. He’s shown courage and determination, trusting God to guide him as he steps into his role as a 13 Bravo in the National Guard.

As a parent, there’s no greater joy than seeing your child thrive in their calling. My prayer for our son is that he continues to walk boldly in the purpose God has for him, trusting that the Lord is always with him, even in the toughest moments.

  1. How can you encourage someone stepping into a new chapter of life to trust in God’s strength and guidance?
  2. What prayers can you lift up for their protection, growth, and success?

Bless him with courage, wisdom, and unwavering faith as he steps into this new season of life. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

The Ping-Pong Parenting Lesson

Date: March 5, 2024

Bible Verse:

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” (Proverbs 22:6, NIV)

Message (Longer with a Fun Twist):

A few months ago, our daughter and I discovered a new family hobby: ping-pong. I was convinced I’d dominate because, hey, I’m the dad… how hard could it be to outplay a child? But the first time we played, I lost so badly, you’d think I’d never held a paddle before. our daughter’s backhand spins were lethal!

I tried to maintain my dignity, but after a barrage of our daughter’s winning serves, I ended up muttering something about “beginner’s luck.” She giggled and gave me a sympathetic pat on the back, which only made it funnier (and more humbling).

That little ping-pong adventure taught me something profound about parenting. Often, we assume we have all the answers or the upper hand simply because we’re older. But every so often, God shows us that our children can surpass us in areas we least expect. And that’s a good thing!

It’s the same with faith. We’re called to raise our kids in the Lord, but we should never underestimate how God can work in their hearts to teach us. our daughter’s dedication in practicing her skills reminded me that our spiritual lives need the same consistent discipline. She didn’t become a mini ping-pong champion overnight; she played regularly, practiced new techniques, and sought to improve.

Imagine if we approached our relationship with God the same way. Daily prayer, Bible reading, worship, and intentional fellowship. Sometimes our kids model this better than we do. They don’t overcomplicate; they simply follow through with wholehearted enthusiasm.

So next time I pick up a paddle, I’ll remember that I still have a lot to learn. Not just in ping-pong, but in humility and perseverance. And hopefully, I’ll win at least one round.

Bible Promise:

God honors our earnest pursuit of Him.

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13, NIV)

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the lessons You teach me through everyday life, and even through ping-pong games. Help me to embrace humility, learn from my children, and consistently pursue You. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.
