The Role of Prophets

Prophets are gifted individuals who receive and communicate God’s messages to the church. Their role is to strengthen, encourage, and comfort believers while keeping the body of Christ aligned with God’s will.

In both the Old and New Testaments, prophets played a vital role in calling God’s people to repentance, providing direction, and pointing to His promises. Today, the gift of prophecy continues to operate in the church, bringing clarity and encouragement.

God’s Messengers: Prophets receive divine insight and share it in a way that builds up the church (Amos 3:7).

Encouragers and Exhorters: Their words often bring comfort and challenge believers to grow in their faith (1 Corinthians 14:31).

Guardians of Truth: Prophets warn against false teachings and help the church remain faithful to God’s Word (2 Peter 2:1).

The prophetic role is not about predicting the future for personal gain but about speaking God’s truth with humility and love.

Fulfilling the Law and Prophets

Jesus’ statement about fulfilling the Law and the Prophets is profound. It reminds us that He didn’t come to abolish God’s commandments but to fulfill them perfectly. Through His life, death, and resurrection, He completed what we could never achieve on our own: perfect righteousness.

I used to struggle with understanding how the Old Testament laws fit into my faith. But as I studied Jesus’ words, I realized that He is the thread that ties everything together. The sacrifices, prophecies, and commandments all point to Him, showing us God’s plan for redemption.

Today, we live under the grace of Christ, not the burden of the law. But that grace doesn’t give us permission to live however we want, it calls us to reflect His holiness and love in everything we do. Jesus’ fulfillment of the law invites us to walk in obedience, not out of obligation, but out of gratitude for His sacrifice.

Reflection Questions

Help me to reflect Your holiness in all I do. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

The Seal of Isaiah the Prophet

In 2018, archaeologists uncovered a small clay seal impression, or bulla, in Jerusalem bearing the inscription “Belonging to Isaiah the prophet.” While there is some debate among scholars about the exact interpretation, the discovery is compelling evidence of Isaiah’s existence and his connection to the biblical narrative.

This seal, found near the remains of King Hezekiah’s palace, provides a fascinating link between the prophet and the events of his time. It highlights Isaiah’s role as a trusted advisor to the king and a messenger of God’s Word.

Isaiah’s story reminds us of the importance of being available to God’s call. His willingness to say, “Here am I. Send me!” challenges us to respond with the same faith and obedience. The discovery of this seal encourages us to trust in the historical and spiritual significance of Scripture.
