Rekindling Intimacy in a Busy World

Life gets busy, work, kids, ministry, and daily responsibilities can all take a toll on the intimacy between spouses. It’s easy to let this vital part of marriage fall to the wayside, but neglecting intimacy can lead to distance and misunderstanding.

Rekindling intimacy doesn’t always start in the bedroom; it begins with connection. Taking time to talk, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company builds the foundation for a healthy and thriving intimate relationship. Plan a date night, take a walk together, or simply sit and share your heart with your spouse.

God designed marriage as a place of rest and renewal. When you prioritize intimacy, you’re investing in the health of your relationship and reflecting His love. Let intimacy be a refuge where you reconnect and grow together, even in the busiest seasons.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you prioritize intimacy in your marriage, even in the midst of a busy schedule?
  2. What practical steps can you take this week to reconnect with your spouse emotionally and physically?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of marriage and the opportunity to rest and reconnect with my spouse. Help us to prioritize intimacy and to create moments of connection that reflect Your love. Teach us to honor You in all we do, even in the busiest seasons of life. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Peter: Redeemed and Restored (Part 2)

Peter’s greatest failure came when he denied Jesus three times on the night of His arrest. Broken and ashamed, Peter must have wondered if he had disqualified himself from God’s plan. But Jesus, in His grace, didn’t leave Peter in his failure. After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to Peter and restored him.

In John 21, Jesus asks Peter three times, “Do you love me?” Each time, Peter affirms his love, and Jesus commissions him to “feed my sheep.” This moment wasn’t just about forgiveness… it was about restoration. Jesus reminded Peter that his calling hadn’t changed and that his past mistakes couldn’t stop God’s purpose.

Peter’s story reminds us that failure isn’t final. God’s grace is greater than our mistakes, and He can restore us to His purpose when we turn back to Him. Like Peter, we are called to walk in redemption and to continue the mission God has given us.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you allow God’s grace to restore you after failure?
  2. What mission has God called you to, and how can you step back into it with confidence?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your grace and the way You restore us when we fail. Teach me to trust in Your forgiveness and to walk boldly in the purpose You’ve given me. Help me to feed Your sheep by sharing Your love and truth with others. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Finding Rest in a Busy World

Life feels busier than ever. Between work, parenting, and ministry, it sometimes feels like there aren’t enough hours in the day. For a long time, I thought rest was something I’d get to “eventually.” But eventually never came.

One night, I stayed up late preparing a sermon. I was exhausted, frustrated, and struggling to focus. Finally, I closed my Bible, looked up, and said, “God, I can’t do this anymore.” That’s when Matthew 11:28 came to mind.

I realized that rest isn’t just a physical need; it’s a spiritual one. God didn’t create us to run on empty. He calls us to rest… not just in a Sabbath sense, but in His presence. True rest comes when we lay our burdens at His feet and trust Him to carry them.

That night, I prayed for God to take my weariness, and He gave me peace I hadn’t felt in weeks. It didn’t mean all my responsibilities disappeared, but I had the strength to face them because I wasn’t relying on my own power.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, remember this: God’s rest is available to you right now. You don’t have to earn it or wait for it. Just come to Him.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for inviting me to find rest in You. Teach me to let go of my burdens and to trust You with the things I can’t control. Renew my strength as I lean on Your grace. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Envy: The Thief of Joy

Envy is a silent thief. It robs us of joy, contentment, and gratitude, leaving us focused on what we lack instead of what we have. It’s easy to fall into envy’s trap in a world that constantly encourages comparison.

I’ve wrestled with envy, especially during seasons where others seemed to be thriving while I was struggling. Instead of celebrating their blessings, I found myself questioning God’s goodness in my own life. But envy isn’t just a personal struggle. It can damage relationships and hinder our spiritual growth.

The key to overcoming envy is gratitude. When we focus on God’s faithfulness and blessings in our own lives, we free ourselves from the chains of comparison. Gratitude shifts our perspective, reminding us that God’s plans for us are good and uniquely tailored to our needs.

Reflection Questions

  1. How has envy impacted your heart, relationships, or faith?
  2. What can you do this week to practice gratitude and celebrate others’ blessings?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the blessings You’ve given me. Teach me to focus on Your goodness and to let go of envy. Help me to celebrate others’ successes and to trust Your perfect plan for my life. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Jealousy and Fits of Rage: The Hidden Battles of the Heart

Jealousy and fits of rage are works of the flesh that often go unnoticed until they’ve caused significant damage. Jealousy feeds on comparison and breeds resentment, while rage is an uncontrolled outburst that leaves a trail of broken relationships and regret.

I’ve wrestled with these struggles, feeling the sting of envy or the frustration that boils over into anger. In those moments, I’ve learned that the root of both jealousy and rage is a lack of trust in God. Either doubting His provision or refusing to surrender control.

Overcoming jealousy starts with gratitude… thanking God for what He has given us and trusting Him for what we need. Controlling anger requires surrendering it to the Holy Spirit, asking Him to transform our hearts and guide our reactions. Both require humility and a willingness to let God take the lead.

Reflection Questions

  1. How does jealousy or rage show up in your life, and how can you address it with God’s help?
  2. What steps can you take to practice gratitude and self-control in challenging situations?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for being my provider and protector. Teach me to trust You fully, letting go of jealousy and anger. Fill my heart with gratitude and peace, and guide my responses so that they reflect Your love and wisdom. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

The Weight of Watching Others Hurt

One of the hardest parts of this journey has been watching my children navigate their own pain. Seeing my son graduate from college without his mother there to celebrate was gut-wrenching. Watching my daughter wrestle with the changes in her world as she turned ten and entered junior high has been equally heartbreaking.

As a parent, I want to fix everything for them. I want to take away their hurt and make their lives whole again. But I’ve learned that sometimes the best thing I can do is simply be present. I can’t heal their hearts, but I can point them to the One who can.

God has used this season to teach me the importance of bearing each other’s burdens. It’s not about having all the answers or fixing everything, it’s about walking alongside those who are hurting, offering love, support, and prayers.

If you’re watching someone you love walk through pain, know that your presence matters more than your solutions. Trust that God is working, even when you can’t see it, and let Him carry the burdens you can’t.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you support and encourage someone you love who is hurting?
  2. What burdens do you need to entrust to God rather than carrying on your own?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for teaching me to bear the burdens of those I love while trusting You to carry what I cannot. Help me to be present and to reflect Your love and compassion in every moment. Strengthen me as I walk alongside my children, pointing them to Your faithfulness. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Returning to Ministry with Renewed Vision

When I stepped back into ministry after those months of rest and reflection, it felt different. I wasn’t the same person I was before. God had used that time to strip away my pride, heal my heart, and renew my vision for His work.

Coming back wasn’t about picking up where I left off. It was about stepping into something new. God had given me a deeper understanding of His grace and a greater compassion for others who are hurting. He reminded me that ministry isn’t about me; it’s about Him.

If you’re in a season of stepping back or waiting, know this: God isn’t finished with you. He’s preparing you for what’s next, shaping you into the person He’s calling you to be. When the time comes to move forward, you’ll do so with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper reliance on Him.

Reflection Questions

  1. How has God used seasons of waiting or rest to prepare you for new opportunities?
  2. What vision or purpose is He renewing in your heart today?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for restoring what was lost and for renewing my heart for ministry. Teach me to serve with humility, compassion, and reliance on Your strength. Help me to walk boldly into what You’ve prepared, trusting in Your faithfulness every step of the way. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

When Anger Fills Your Heart

I never thought I would feel angry with God, but I have. During one particularly painful season, I felt like He had let me down. I prayed for healing, for restoration, for answers, and none of it came the way I wanted. I found myself asking, “If You’re good, why would You allow this?”

Anger is a natural response to hurt, but Scripture reminds us to handle it carefully. God can handle our honesty, but He calls us to bring our anger to Him rather than letting it consume us.

In that season, I learned to lay my anger at His feet through prayer. I told Him how I felt, raw and unfiltered, and asked Him to meet me in my pain. Over time, He softened my heart, reminding me that His plans are always for my good, even when they don’t look the way I expect.

Reflection Questions

  1. Have you ever felt angry with God? How did you process those emotions?
  2. How can you bring your anger to God in a way that leads to healing?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for being patient with me in my anger and pain. Teach me to bring my frustrations to You and to trust in Your goodness. Help me to release bitterness and to find peace in Your presence. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

The Power of Words

Have you ever been deeply hurt by someone’s words? Or have you experienced healing and encouragement from a kind word? The Bible repeatedly highlights the power of the tongue. Our words can wound or heal, destroy or restore.

There was a moment in my life when someone’s words left a scar on my heart. For years, I carried that hurt until someone else’s kind and thoughtful words brought healing. That experience reminded me of the weight our words carry.

Proverbs 12:18 contrasts reckless and wise speech. Reckless words cut deep, but wise words bring healing. As followers of Christ, we’re called to use our words to uplift, encourage, and bring life. Every word we speak is an opportunity to reflect God’s love and truth to others.

Reflection Questions

  1. Think about a time when your words either hurt or healed someone. How can you learn from that experience?
  2. How can you intentionally speak life into someone’s situation today?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the power of words. Help me to use my tongue to bring healing, encouragement, and truth to others. Teach me to reflect Your love in every conversation. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

The Healing Power of Counseling

As a counselor, I’ve spent years helping individuals, couples, and groups navigate their challenges. I’ve listened to their stories, offered tools for growth, and walked with them through some of the hardest seasons of their lives. But when I found myself in the middle of my own storm, the idea of seeking professional counseling felt uncomfortable.

I wrestled with questions like, “Shouldn’t I be able to figure this out myself?” or, “What will it say about me as a counselor if I need help too?” But God gently reminded me that seeking counsel isn’t a sign of weakness… it’s a step toward healing.

Sitting on the other side of the counseling relationship was humbling. It gave me a new perspective, not only on my own struggles but also on the courage it takes for others to seek help. It reminded me that no one is immune to the need for guidance, and that even counselors need to be counseled sometimes.

God used those sessions to peel back layers I hadn’t fully addressed, to challenge me in areas I had overlooked, and to show me that His work in my life wasn’t finished. Counseling became a place where I could be vulnerable, gain clarity, and experience God’s grace in new ways.

If you’re hesitating to seek help, know this: asking for guidance doesn’t mean you’ve failed… it means you’re committed to growth. Whether you’re a leader, a counselor, or simply someone struggling with life’s challenges, God often works through others to bring healing.

Reflection Questions

  1. How might seeking counsel help you in your current season?
  2. What barriers might be keeping you from asking for help, and how can you overcome them?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of wise counselors and the healing they bring through Your guidance. Teach me to embrace humility and to seek help when I need it, knowing that You work through others to restore and renew. Help me to grow in grace and to walk in the wholeness You desire for me. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.
