Discipleship and the Role of Community

Discipleship thrives in community. While one-on-one relationships are important, true discipleship often happens within the context of a group of believers who encourage, challenge, and spur one another on in their faith. Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds us of the power of gathering together and the importance of mutual encouragement.

In Kneel Ministries, we emphasize creating communities where discipleship flourishes. These are places where people feel safe to share their struggles, celebrate victories, and grow together in Christ. In community, we experience the fullness of God’s design for discipleship: iron sharpening iron and believers walking alongside one another in love and truth.

Discipleship in community also reminds us that we’re not alone. When challenges arise, there’s strength in numbers. Together, we can face difficulties, hold each other accountable, and grow deeper in our walk with Christ.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you foster a community that encourages discipleship and mutual growth?
  2. In what ways can you invite others into your discipleship journey?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of community and for the ways it strengthens and encourages us in our faith. Teach me to invest in and build communities where discipleship thrives. Help Kneel Ministries to create spaces where Your love and truth are evident. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Overcoming Resentment

Resentment is a quiet thief. It sneaks into our hearts after someone hurts us, taking root and growing until it clouds our thoughts and actions. But Ephesians 4:31-32 reminds us of God’s call to let go of bitterness and embrace kindness and forgiveness.

For a long time, I struggled with resentment after a broken relationship. Every time I replayed the events in my mind, the pain felt fresh, and my heart grew harder. I thought holding onto resentment was a form of justice, but in reality, it only kept me chained to the hurt.

Letting go of resentment isn’t easy, but it’s essential for our spiritual health. It requires surrendering our pain to God, trusting Him to bring healing, and asking Him to soften our hearts. When we release resentment, we make room for God’s peace and joy to fill our lives.

Reflection Questions

  1. What resentment are you holding onto, and how is it affecting your heart?
  2. How can you trust God to bring justice and healing in this situation?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for freeing me from bitterness and resentment. Teach me to let go of past hurts and to trust You with the healing process. Fill my heart with kindness and compassion, and help me to reflect Your love in all I do. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

The Gift of Forgiveness

Forgiveness is one of the most profound gifts we can give and receive. It’s a reflection of God’s grace in our lives and a step toward healing and freedom. Yet, forgiving others, and even ourselves, can be one of the hardest things to do.

I remember a season when I struggled to forgive someone who deeply hurt me. Every time I thought about what happened, the pain resurfaced. But as I read Ephesians 4:32, I realized that holding onto bitterness wasn’t hurting them… it was hurting me. Forgiveness didn’t mean excusing their actions; it meant releasing the burden and trusting God to bring justice and healing.

The ultimate example of forgiveness is found in Jesus, who bore our sins on the cross. When we choose to forgive, we reflect His love and experience the freedom that comes from letting go. Forgiveness isn’t just for the person who hurt us; it’s for us, too.

Reflection Questions

  1. Is there someone you need to forgive, or an area where you need to forgive yourself?
  2. How can you rely on God’s grace to take steps toward forgiveness?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for forgiving me through Jesus Christ. Teach me to extend that same grace to others, even when it’s hard. Help me to let go of bitterness and trust You to heal my heart. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

The Bible’s Timeless Truth: Inerrant and Unchanging

One of the greatest assurances we have as Christians is the inerrancy of Scripture. The Bible is God-breathed, meaning it originates from Him and is entirely trustworthy. While the world changes, God’s Word remains unchanging, offering a foundation that is solid and reliable.

Critics may argue that the Bible is outdated or full of contradictions, but history, archaeology, and fulfilled prophecy consistently affirm its accuracy and reliability. Its truths are timeless because they come from a God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

Knowing the Bible is inerrant means we can trust it in every area of our lives, our faith, relationships, decisions, and challenges. It’s not just a book of good advice; it’s the ultimate authority for how we live, guiding us into righteousness and equipping us for every good work.

As we navigate a world that often rejects absolute truth, we can stand firm on the foundation of God’s Word, knowing it is inerrant, unchanging, and eternally relevant.

Reflection Questions

  1. How does knowing the Bible is inerrant give you confidence in your faith?
  2. How can you defend the reliability of Scripture to those who question its authority?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of Your inerrant Word. Teach me to trust its truth and to apply it faithfully in every area of my life. Help me to stand firm on its foundation and to share its message with confidence and love. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Comedy or Compromise? Laughing at Sin

Comedy is a powerful form of entertainment, but it often comes at a cost. Many TV shows and movies use humor to make light of sin. Turning things like infidelity, drunkenness, or disrespect into punchlines. While it may seem harmless to laugh along, we need to ask ourselves: What am I really laughing at?

When we laugh at what grieves God, we risk dulling our sensitivity to sin. The things we consume shape our hearts and minds, and over time, we may find ourselves more comfortable with what we once avoided.

This doesn’t mean avoiding humor altogether… laughter is a gift from God! But it does mean being mindful of the messages behind the jokes. Choose comedy that uplifts, inspires, and reflects God’s goodness, rather than compromising your values for a quick laugh.

Reflection Questions

  1. Have you ever laughed at something in entertainment that conflicted with your faith? How did it affect you?
  2. What steps can you take to ensure the comedy you enjoy aligns with biblical values?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of laughter and joy. Teach me to choose comedy that honors You and to guard my heart against humor that compromises my faith. Help me to reflect Your goodness in everything I watch and enjoy. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Loving and Caring for the Least of These

Jesus’ words in Matthew 25:40 are a powerful reminder of our call to love and serve those in need. Whether it’s feeding the hungry, visiting the lonely, or offering kindness to the marginalized, our actions reflect our faith.

I once had the privilege of serving at a local shelter. What struck me wasn’t just the physical needs of those I met, but their stories, their humanity. Each person was created in God’s image, and their worth wasn’t diminished by their circumstances.

Loving the least of these isn’t about grand gestures; it’s about seeing people through God’s eyes and responding with compassion. When we care for those in need, we not only meet their immediate needs but also reflect Christ’s love in a way that transforms hearts, ours and theirs.

Reflection Questions

  1. Who in your life might need love, care, or encouragement this week?
  2. How can you make serving others a regular part of your walk with Christ?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for reminding me of the value of every person. Teach me to see others through Your eyes and to love them as You do. Help me to reflect Your compassion in all I do, serving the least of these with joy and humility. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Introduction: The Struggle Between Flesh and Spirit

We all feel it. The inner battle between doing what’s right and giving in to our desires. This struggle between the flesh and the Spirit is one every believer faces. The works of the flesh, as described in Galatians 5:19-21, are not just sins but a pattern of living that leads us away from God.

The flesh represents our sinful nature, the part of us that resists God and craves self-gratification. These behaviors are the default mode of a heart not surrendered to the Spirit. But the good news is that through Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit, we can overcome the flesh and live in freedom.

In this series, we’ll explore the works of the flesh and learn how to identify, resist, and replace them with the fruit of the Spirit. This is not about perfection… it’s about walking daily in the Spirit, allowing Him to transform our hearts and lives.

Reflection Questions

  1. Where do you feel the strongest struggle between the flesh and the Spirit in your life?
  2. How can you invite the Holy Spirit into those battles?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of Your Spirit, who gives me the strength to overcome the desires of the flesh. Teach me to walk by the Spirit and to choose Your ways over my own. Help me to grow in grace, freedom, and faithfulness to You. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Leaving a Legacy of Life-Giving Words

Our words don’t just impact the present, they leave a legacy. The things we say can shape the lives of our children, friends, and even future generations. The Bible reminds us that the tongue holds the power of life and death. What kind of legacy are we leaving with our words?

I think of my daughter our daughter and the blessing I’ve prayed over her since she was in the womb. Those words are more than just a routine, they’re seeds planted in her heart, affirming her identity and purpose in Christ. One day, she’ll carry those words with her, and they’ll continue to bear fruit in her life.

Legacy-building starts with intentionality. Are we speaking life over the people around us? Are we using our words to uplift, encourage, and point others to Christ? Leaving a legacy of life-giving words requires consistency, but the impact is eternal.

Reflection Questions

  1. What legacy do you want your words to leave for your family and friends?
  2. How can you be more intentional about speaking life into others today?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the power of words. Help me to use my tongue to leave a legacy of life, love, and truth. Teach me to speak intentionally, uplifting those around me and pointing them to You. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Mentorship: The Paul, Barnabas, and Timothy Model

Mentorship is a vital part of the Christian life. The Bible gives us a powerful model for mentorship in the relationships between Paul, Barnabas, and Timothy. Paul poured into Timothy, encouraging and equipping him for ministry. Barnabas walked alongside Paul, offering support and accountability. Together, they demonstrate the importance of having mentors, peers, and those we mentor.

In my life, I’ve been blessed with people who have poured into me… mentors who guided me with wisdom and encouragement. I’ve also had the privilege of walking alongside peers who sharpened my faith and of mentoring others who are growing in their walk with Christ.

The Paul, Barnabas, and Timothy model reminds us that mentorship is about relationship. It’s about walking together, sharing life, and pointing each other to Christ. Whether you’re a mentor, a peer, or a mentee, God can use these relationships to grow and strengthen your faith.

Reflection Questions

  1. Who are the Pauls, Barnabases, and Timothys in your life?
  2. How can you intentionally invest in these relationships this week?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of mentorship. Teach me to be a Timothy who learns, a Barnabas who encourages, and a Paul who pours into others. Help me to build relationships that glorify You and strengthen my faith. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

The Danger of Dirty Jokes

Dirty jokes are often brushed off as “just humor,” but as Christians, we’re called to a higher standard. Coarse joking may seem harmless in the moment, but it reflects what’s in our hearts and influences those around us.

When we laugh at or share inappropriate jokes, we’re not just participating in them, we’re normalizing sin. It might feel like no big deal, but every time we engage in coarse joking, we step further away from the purity and gratitude God calls us to.

I’ve been in situations where I’ve heard or laughed at a dirty joke to avoid being awkward or standing out. But each time, I felt a conviction afterward. Those moments reminded me that my words and actions should reflect Christ, even in small, everyday interactions.

Choosing not to participate in dirty jokes isn’t about being uptight, it’s about honoring God with our speech and protecting the witness of our faith.

Reflection Questions

  1. How have you responded to dirty jokes in the past?
  2. What steps can you take to avoid or respond differently to coarse joking in the future?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for reminding me of the power of words and the importance of honoring You in my speech. Teach me to avoid coarse joking and to use my words to reflect Your goodness. Help me to stand firm in my faith, even when it feels uncomfortable. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.
