The Gift of Exhortation

The gift of exhortation is the Spirit-given ability to encourage and strengthen others in their walk with God. Whether through spoken words, written messages, or acts of kindness, exhorters inspire others to stay faithful and grow in their faith.

I’ve been blessed by people with this gift in my life… those who, in my darkest moments, spoke life and truth over me. Their encouragement reminded me that God was still at work, even when I couldn’t see it.

Encouraging Others in Faith: Exhorters help others persevere in their spiritual journey (1 Thessalonians 5:11).

Strengthening the Weak: This gift often brings hope and strength to those who feel weary or discouraged (Isaiah 40:31).

Calling Believers to Action: Exhorters challenge others to live out their faith boldly and purposefully (Hebrews 10:24).

Exhortation is a gift that builds up the body of Christ, reminding us of God’s promises and encouraging us to live in His strength.

Reflection Questions

  1. How has someone with the gift of exhortation impacted your faith journey?
  2. In what ways can you practice encouraging and strengthening others around you?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of exhortation that strengthens and inspires Your people. Teach me to encourage others with Your truth and to be a source of hope in their lives. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

The Gift of Interpretation of Tongues

The gift of interpretation of tongues allows a believer to understand and convey the meaning of a message given in tongues. This gift is essential for ensuring that messages spoken in tongues during a corporate setting are meaningful and edifying to the body of Christ.

I’ve been in services where someone gave a message in tongues, and another person interpreted it with clarity and power. The interpretation brought encouragement and unity to the congregation, highlighting the Spirit’s work among us.

Revealing God’s Message: The interpretation ensures that the church understands and benefits from the message given in tongues (1 Corinthians 14:13).

Promoting Order in Worship: This gift maintains order in corporate worship, ensuring that spiritual gifts are exercised appropriately (1 Corinthians 14:27-28).

Strengthening the Body: Interpretation allows the church to be edified, encouraged, and aligned with God’s will.

Calling on the Holy Spirit for the gift of interpretation reminds us of the importance of clarity and understanding in worship.

Reflection Questions

  1. Have you ever witnessed the gift of interpretation in action? How did it impact the congregation?
  2. How can you pray for the Spirit’s guidance in using this gift to edify others?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of interpretation that brings clarity and understanding to Your messages. Teach me to use this gift with humility and to honor You in all things. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

The Gift of Speaking in Tongues

The gift of tongues is a Spirit-empowered ability to speak in a language unknown to the speaker, often for prayer, worship, or a message to the church. This gift demonstrates God’s presence and serves as a sign to both believers and unbelievers.

As part of the Assemblies of God, I’ve seen how the gift of tongues brings edification and intimacy in prayer. Whether in a private prayer time or a corporate worship setting, this gift is a powerful reminder of the Holy Spirit’s active presence in our lives.

For Personal Edification: Speaking in tongues during prayer allows believers to connect deeply with God, bypassing human understanding (1 Corinthians 14:2-4).

For Corporate Edification: When accompanied by interpretation, tongues can bring a message of encouragement to the church (1 Corinthians 14:27).

A Sign to Unbelievers: This gift serves as a testimony to God’s power and draws attention to His work (Acts 2:6-8).

Calling on the Holy Spirit for the gift of tongues reminds us to embrace His work in our lives and to worship Him with our whole being.

Reflection Questions

  1. How has the gift of tongues deepened your relationship with God?
  2. How can you seek to use this gift in alignment with God’s purpose and order?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of tongues that draws me closer to You in prayer and worship. Teach me to use this gift for Your glory and to edify others. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

The Gift of Distinguishing Between Spirits

The gift of distinguishing between spirits, often called discernment, is the Holy Spirit’s empowerment to recognize the spiritual source behind actions, words, or events. This gift helps believers differentiate between what is from God, what is human, and what is demonic.

I’ve experienced moments in ministry when something appeared good on the surface, but the Holy Spirit gave me a check in my spirit. As I prayed, He revealed what was truly at work, protecting me and others from harm. Discernment is essential in navigating spiritual battles and ensuring we walk in truth.

Discerning God’s Work: This gift helps us recognize and align with what God is doing in a situation (Acts 16:6-10).

Exposing Deception: Discernment protects us from false teachings and spiritual attacks, keeping us grounded in truth (1 John 4:1).

Strengthening the Church: The gift of discernment equips believers to make wise decisions, fostering unity and spiritual growth.

Calling on the Holy Spirit for discernment allows us to walk confidently in His truth, guarding against deception and aligning with His will.

Reflection Questions

  1. When have you experienced or needed discernment in a difficult situation?
  2. How can you grow in sensitivity to the Holy Spirit’s leading?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of discernment that reveals truth and protects me from deception. Teach me to rely on Your Spirit to guide my decisions and to stand firm in Your Word. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Let Your Yes Be Yes

Integrity matters deeply to God. In this section of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches that we don’t need elaborate oaths to validate our words. Our “yes” or “no” should carry enough weight on its own. This kind of honesty reflects a heart surrendered to God and a life committed to truth.

I’ve been in situations where I felt the need to explain myself excessively or add emphasis to my promises. But the more I tried to convince others of my sincerity, the more I realized I wasn’t fully trusting God to guide my words and actions. Jesus calls us to live in such a way that our simple words carry credibility and honor Him.

Letting your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no is not just about honesty. It’s about consistency. It’s a reflection of God’s faithfulness in our own lives. When we live with integrity, we build trust and point others to the One who is the ultimate truth.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you reflect God’s truth and integrity in your daily conversations?
  2. Are there areas in your life where you need to let your words and actions align more closely?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for teaching me the importance of integrity and truthfulness. Help me to live in a way that honors You, letting my words reflect Your faithfulness. Teach me to speak simply and sincerely, trusting You to guide my actions. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Faithfulness in Marriage and Commitment

Jesus raises the standard for faithfulness, showing that God’s design for marriage is sacred and lifelong. His words challenge us to view commitment as more than a legal contract, it’s a covenant before God that reflects His love and faithfulness.

As someone who has walked through the pain of divorce, these verses hit deeply. I’ve seen how broken promises can lead to hurt, but I’ve also experienced God’s healing and redemption. Jesus’ teaching isn’t meant to condemn… it’s meant to restore. He calls us to honor the commitments we’ve made and to seek His grace when we fall short.

Faithfulness in marriage begins with faithfulness to God. Whether you’re married, single, or divorced, we’re all called to reflect His love in our relationships. By trusting Him and seeking His wisdom, we can honor His design and experience His blessings.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you honor God’s design for commitment in your relationships?
  2. What steps can you take to reflect His faithfulness in your life?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness and for teaching me the sacredness of commitment. Help me to honor You in my relationships and to reflect Your love and grace in all I do. Teach me to trust in Your healing and redemption when I fall short. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

The Cost of Lust

Jesus’ words about lust cut straight to the heart of the issue. Literally. He challenges us to go beyond outward actions and examine the intentions of our hearts. Lust isn’t just a fleeting thought or temptation; it’s a deliberate focus that leads us away from God’s design for purity.

There was a time when I minimized the impact of what I allowed into my mind, thinking it was harmless. But I learned that unchecked thoughts can quickly become strongholds, affecting how we view others, ourselves, and even God. Jesus’ teaching is not about guilt… it’s about freedom.

Lust destroys relationships, not just with others but also with God. It clouds our judgment, distorts love, and fuels selfishness. The good news is that Jesus offers a way out. By surrendering our thoughts to Him and relying on the Holy Spirit, we can walk in purity and honor God with our hearts and minds.

Reflection Questions

  1. How can you guard your heart and mind against lustful thoughts?
  2. What steps can you take to honor God with your thoughts and actions?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for teaching me the importance of purity in my heart and mind. Help me to surrender my thoughts to You and to walk in holiness. Teach me to reflect Your love and truth in all my relationships. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Hidden Pain: When We Push Away What Hurts

Some pain is easy to see. It comes out in tears, anger, or words that express exactly what we’re feeling. But there’s another kind of pain. Hidden pain. The kind we push down, ignore, and try to convince ourselves doesn’t matter.

I see this in our son. When my wife and I separated, it didn’t just affect me, it affected him too. She had been in his life since he was six years old, a constant figure during the formative years of his childhood. But when she left, the relationship ended for him too. She wasn’t there for his college graduation. She missed three of his birthdays and two Christmases.

If you ask our son, he’ll tell you he doesn’t care. He’ll say, “She wasn’t my real mom anyway.” But I know better. He loved her and has called her mom from the very beginning. I know the woman who hugged him after school, celebrated his victories, and prayed with him before bed was more than just a stepmom… she was family. And losing her left a void he doesn’t like to talk about.

I understand his response because I’ve been there. It’s easier to push away pain than to deal with it. Admitting it hurts feels vulnerable, and sometimes, we’d rather pretend we’re fine than confront the ache in our hearts. But the truth is, hidden pain doesn’t just disappear, it festers. And unless we bring it to the surface and to God, it can harden our hearts.

Psalm 34:18 reminds us that God is close to the brokenhearted. He doesn’t wait for us to have it all together before He steps in. He’s with us in the mess, in the tears we don’t shed, and in the words we can’t say.

I pray that one day our son will let God into the spaces where it still hurts. Because healing doesn’t mean forgetting… it means trusting God to fill the gaps with His love and grace.

If you’re carrying hidden pain, know this: God sees it, even if no one else does. He’s ready to meet you where you are and bring the healing only He can provide.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for being close to the brokenhearted, even when we don’t express our pain. Help me, and those I love, to bring hidden hurts to You, trusting You to bring healing and peace. Thank You for Your unfailing love. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

The Way, The Truth, and The Life

When Jesus declared Himself as “The Way, The Truth, and The Life,” He proclaimed His unique role as the only path to God. This title encapsulates His purpose and mission, offering direction, clarity, and eternal hope.

I remember struggling with doubt, wondering if I was on the right path. In that season, Jesus’ words reminded me that He is not just a guide but the Way itself. Trusting Him brought peace and assurance, knowing that following Him leads to life and truth.

The Way to the Father: Jesus provides the only path to a relationship with God, offering salvation through His sacrifice.

The Truth That Sets Us Free: His teachings reveal God’s truth, guiding us to live in alignment with His will (John 8:32).

The Life That Never Ends: Jesus gives abundant life now and the promise of eternal life with Him.

Calling on Jesus as the Way, the Truth, and the Life reminds us to trust Him completely and follow His lead in every area of life.

Living the Sermon on the Mount

The Sermon on the Mount isn’t just a collection of teachings. It’s a call to live a life fully surrendered to God. Jesus’ words challenge us to embrace humility, pursue righteousness, love sacrificially, and trust God completely. They invite us to reflect His kingdom here on earth.

Looking back on this series, I see how each teaching builds on the others, painting a picture of what it means to be a follower of Christ. From the Beatitudes to the parable of the wise builder, Jesus gives us a roadmap for a life that honors God and impacts the world.

Living the Sermon on the Mount isn’t about perfection… it’s about daily dependence on Jesus. When we commit to following His teachings, we become salt and light, drawing others to Him and experiencing the fullness of His kingdom. Let’s live out these truths boldly, trusting in His grace to guide us.

Final Blog of the Sermon on the Mount Series: Building a Kingdom Life

Date: May 10, 2027

Bible Verse: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33)

Message:

The Sermon on the Mount is more than a collection of teachings. It’s the heart of Jesus’ message, a blueprint for how to live a life that reflects God’s kingdom. From the Beatitudes to the call to build on the rock, every word challenges us to align our hearts, actions, and priorities with God’s will.

As I’ve reflected on this series, I’ve been reminded of how countercultural these teachings are. Jesus calls us to be humble when the world values pride, to forgive when it’s easier to hold a grudge, and to trust Him completely when we’re tempted to rely on our own understanding. These aren’t easy commands, but they’re life-changing.

I’ve personally experienced moments where applying the Sermon on the Mount felt overwhelming. When I struggled to forgive, to choose meekness over pride, or to trust God’s provision, I saw just how far I fell short. But Jesus’ words are always paired with His grace. He doesn’t just call us to this way of life, He empowers us to live it through His Spirit.

Living out the Sermon on the Mount is a daily journey. It’s about choosing to be salt and light in a world that desperately needs hope. It’s about building our lives on the solid foundation of His Word, knowing that storms will come but His truth will sustain us. And ultimately, it’s about seeking His kingdom first, trusting that He will provide everything we need.

Reflection Questions:

How has this journey through the Sermon on the Mount deepened your understanding of Jesus’ teachings?

What steps can you take to live out these truths in your daily life?

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for the profound truths of the Sermon on the Mount. Teach me to live a life that reflects Your kingdom, trusting in Your strength and grace each day. Help me to be salt and light, building my life on the solid foundation of Your Word. Transform my heart to seek Your will above all else. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Introducing a New Series: The Lord’s Prayer

Date: May 17, 2027

Bible Verse: “This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name…'” (Matthew 6:9)

Prayer is the heartbeat of a believer’s relationship with God, and Jesus gave us a perfect model for how to pray in the Lord’s Prayer. This isn’t just a prayer to recite. It’s a framework for how to approach God with reverence, trust, and dependence.

Over the next series of blogs, we’ll dive deeply into the Lord’s Prayer, exploring each phrase and its significance. From honoring God’s name to asking for daily provision, forgiveness, and deliverance, every line reveals more about who God is and how we’re called to relate to Him.

For me, the Lord’s Prayer has been a lifeline in moments when I didn’t know what to say to God. Its simplicity and depth remind me that prayer isn’t about saying the perfect words, it’s about connecting with our heavenly Father.

Whether you’ve prayed this prayer a thousand times or are encountering it for the first time, I invite you to journey with me as we discover its richness and power. Together, let’s deepen our prayer lives and grow closer to the God who loves us unconditionally.
