The Source of Love

Scripture

1 John 4:7–8 (ESV)
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

Valentine’s Day is often seen as a celebration of romance.

Flowers, chocolates, cards, and candlelit dinners fill the day. Stores decorate weeks in advance, and people search for the perfect way to express how they feel about someone special.

But long before greeting cards or heart-shaped candy existed, the Bible spoke about love in a much deeper way.

Scripture teaches that love is not something humans invented. Love actually comes from God Himself.

God is the source of love.

Every act of kindness, every sacrifice for another person, every moment where someone chooses patience instead of anger or compassion instead of selfishness reflects something about the character of God.

That means love is not limited to romantic relationships.

It appears in friendships.
It appears in families.
It appears in the quiet moments when someone chooses to care for another person without expecting anything in return.

True love always points back to the One who created it.

And the greatest display of love was not shown through flowers or gifts, but through sacrifice. Jesus gave His life so that we could know God personally and experience His love forever.

Because of that, love is more than a feeling we celebrate once a year.

It becomes something we live out every day.

So while the world celebrates love today, it is worth remembering where love truly begins.

Not with us.

But with God.

Bible Promise

Romans 5:8 (ESV)
But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Reflection Questions

  1. How does understanding God as the source of love change the way we express love to others?
  2. What is one practical way you can show Christlike love to someone today?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for being the true source of love. Help us reflect Your love in the way we treat others each day. Teach us to care for people with kindness, patience, and humility, remembering that the love we give is a reflection of the love You first showed us. May our lives point people to You, the One from whom all love flows. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all of the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Love That Begins With Healing

Scripture

Isaiah 61:1 (ESV)
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted.

Some Valentine’s Days feel different than others.

Sometimes life places us in new seasons we never expected. Seasons where the path forward looks different than the one we once imagined.

Those seasons can bring reflection, healing, and growth.

The truth is that love does not disappear when life changes. In many ways, God uses difficult seasons to deepen our understanding of love.

He teaches us patience.

He teaches us humility.

He teaches us how to trust Him with our future.

Healing is part of God’s work in our lives.

And as He restores our hearts, He reminds us that the story is not over. God continues writing new chapters, often in ways we could never have predicted.

The most important love we can hold onto is the love God has for us.

When that love becomes our foundation, every step forward becomes an opportunity to grow stronger, wiser, and more faithful.

Bible Promise

Psalm 30:5 (ESV)
Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.

  2. What does it look like to trust God with the future when life takes unexpected turns?

Heavenly Father, thank You for walking with us through every season of life. When our hearts need healing, remind us that Your love never changes. Restore our hope, strengthen our faith, and guide our steps into the future You have prepared. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all of the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

The Gift of Commitment

Marriage is one of the greatest commitments two people can make.

It is a covenant that reflects the faithfulness of God. Two lives joined together, learning to walk forward side by side through the seasons of life.

Love within a marriage grows through shared experiences. Through laughter, through challenges, through raising children, through learning how to support each other in ways that only time can teach.

Valentine’s Day reminds us to celebrate that love.

It reminds husbands to honor their wives and wives to encourage their husbands. It reminds families to pause and appreciate the gift of walking through life together.

Commitment is not always easy.

But when love is rooted in Christ, commitment becomes stronger than the circumstances surrounding it.

God designed marriage to be a place where love grows, forgiveness flourishes, and two people continually learn how to reflect His faithfulness.

Bible Promise

Hebrews 13:4 (ESV)
Let marriage be held in honor among all.

Loving Well

One of the most powerful things love can do is extend grace.

No relationship is perfect. Every marriage experiences misunderstandings, frustrations, and moments where forgiveness becomes necessary.

But love chooses grace.

It chooses to listen instead of accuse. It chooses forgiveness instead of resentment. It chooses humility instead of pride.

The more two people grow together, the more they learn how important these choices really are.

A healthy marriage is not built on perfection.

It is built on grace.

When we remember how much grace God has shown us, it becomes easier to extend that same grace to the people closest to us.

Love grows stronger when forgiveness becomes a regular practice.

Reflection Questions

  1. Why is grace essential in healthy relationships?
  2. How can we grow in showing honor and respect to our spouse?

Love Through Every Season

Every relationship experiences seasons.

Some seasons are filled with laughter and joy. Others are marked by stress, responsibilities, and the challenges of everyday life.

But real love grows stronger through every season.

Marriage is not just about sharing the best days. It is about walking together through the difficult ones as well. It is about choosing unity when life becomes complicated and choosing patience when emotions run high.

The love God designed for marriage is resilient.

It weathers storms. It forgives quickly. It grows deeper as two people learn to trust and depend on each other.

On Valentine’s Day we celebrate love, but the deeper truth is that love is not sustained by a single day.

It is sustained by faithfulness over time.

The strongest relationships are built when two people continually turn their hearts toward God and toward each other.

Reflection Questions

  1. How does faith strengthen a marriage during difficult seasons?
  2. What are some ways couples can continue growing closer over time?

Heavenly Father, thank You for the relationships You place in our lives. Help us remain faithful, patient, and loving through every season. May our marriages be strengthened by Your presence and guided by Your wisdom. I give You all honor, all the glory, and all of the praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen & Amen.

Love Begins at Home

Valentine’s Day often reminds us of romance. Flowers, dinner reservations, handwritten cards. It’s a day when many people pause to express appreciation for someone they love.

But love is built long before a holiday arrives.

Real love grows in everyday moments. It shows up in conversations after long days, in encouragement when someone feels discouraged, and in the quiet choices we make to put someone else before ourselves.

Marriage is one of the places where that kind of love is meant to grow. Two people learning to walk through life together, supporting each other, forgiving each other, and pointing each other toward Christ.

Love in a marriage is not sustained by feelings alone. Feelings come and go. Real love is sustained by commitment, grace, patience, and the daily decision to honor the covenant God created.

Valentine’s Day is a wonderful reminder to pause and say “I love you.” But the greater calling is to live those words every day.

The strongest marriages are not the ones that avoid difficulty. They are the ones that keep choosing love through every season of life.
